Re: How is one attacking one-self?
It is a way to get back fedsafe if you go over 999 experience points. What you do is, go to Stardock. Buy a Merchant Freighter and a Scout Marauder. Scout gotta be personal, Corp wont work, Merf doesn't matter. Scan to check for a surrounding sector without navhaz or enemy figs, if enemy figs everywhere, clear a sector, if navhaz, gtorp to clear.
X to the Scout, buy 3 units of corbomite. X to the Merf, buy 10 figs. Tow Scout to the "clean" adjacent sector while in the Merf. Attack the Scout with 10 figs. You end up in a pod, back at the SD sector, with 1/3 of your experience points gone. Its not exact, but close, so, say you had 1400 exp, do the "self pod" as described, you end up with ~ 933 exp, fedsafe.
Can do this twice a day, assuming not podded before that day.
Its the best way to lose exp while staying alive.
Above is for a stock game, if the ships are edited, you MUST do the attacking using a ship with an escape pod or you will die.

Hey Kavanaugh! I forgot that I had this way to contact you. Too bad about Crunchers. He said a win10 update made it not work. I say uninstall the update. Oh well. I'm only playing on CrazyWorldbbs. one 10k and one 2k game. keith.briggs@juno.com if you want to connect directly.

Cool, thanks for the tip. Will try it next time I start in a new game.
usually I go cloak somewhere until I have a planet with a big enough defence.

@kav - Why not just attack the port next to dock, your pod will end up back at dock and you save some $$$
