TWX Script Editor (TWXIDE) now available from Grimy
I've been working on this project for a couple of months, out of a need to both learn C# and minimize the time it takes to write scripts. I've learned a ton, and it's my pleasure to make this editor (named as a tribute to Xide) available for everyone's use. It's pre-release quality, and there are bugs, but nothing that is going to cause problems or crash your system. I did mention that this is my first C# forms app, right? The reason I'm releasing it in its current state is because development has slowed on it. A couple of weeks ago I was progressing it daily, but things have heated up at work. So instead of letting it get bogged down, I'm releasing it so you can benefit from what does work... which is nearly everything important. UPDATE: This app requires .net 3.0 SP1. The .net packages are available from Microsoft as follows: .net 2.0 x86.net 2.0 SP1 x86.net 3.0.net 3.0 SP1From Grimy... Features: * Built-in script reference * Recent file list * Multi-tabbed interface * Syntax highlighting * Dynamic list of variables and headers used * Variable and header list doubles as a search * Drag *.ts file(s) to the .exe to open them * Add .ts files as command line arguments (eg. twxide.exe 1.ts 2.ts 3.ts) I will clean up the code and address a few of the nagging bugs, and then release the source code in the hopes that someone more competent and with more time can help extend the features. Feedback is welcome. +EP+ P.S. Thanks to MD for some of the initial motivation and accountability Obligatory Screen Shot: Attachment:

Sounds good except for the requirement to install .NET framework v2.0.50727 to use it.

Shame this isn't smack or I would reply to your post, and tell you where you can put your "get over it". your original post is the equivalent of "i don't mean to criticize, but your product sucks." the fact that you criticize nullifies your opening clause. if you don't like it then just don't use it. no need to criticize. there is nothing evil about the .net framework. if you disagree then perhaps you could support your assertion with some substance. otherwise, why darken our door with negative comments? ps. i don't participate in smack. smack is the lowest form of debate.

ps. i don't participate in smack. smack is the lowest form of debate. Actually I was stating my opinion about the fact that you have to install another program in addition to the original editor. There was no mention of the requirement that I saw about having to install .Net Framework in the original post announcing the release- there was also not a link provided to get the required application that would have made it easier. Finding the required program for the editor install would not be hard. At no point did I say anything negative about the editor's coding/features because I haven't installed it - stopped when it said I had to install .Net. I am not using the editor at this time, and will continue using ConTEXT. Now as for the "no need for negative comments"...... One of the problems I see is that we usually do not have feedback of any type regarding what issues people have with scripts or applications that are released. I would rather someone post about issues so the author can either clear it up as user error or correct the product. In this case ".Net Framework xxxxx is required for install". "Click: http://www.microsoft.com. or whatever the URL actually is. I did not post the URL for the users because I did not search for it. The "get over it" remark that you made was meant to trivialize another's concern or opinion. It serves no other purpose. Now if you would have been wanting to be helpful to the users, you would have stated something like "installing .net framework only requires....." and possibly the link. But, helpful - no you weren't, you chose to try and trivalize someone else's opinion. Hmmm, that would appear to be a negative comment on your part that would "darken our door". Another word: hypocrite. Now to make that easy for you to understand: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/hypocrite

Re: TWX Script Editor (TWXIDE) now available from Grimy
uh..not to distract from the whole .Net biz...
This editor is pretty cool, and I'm a conText user. The code is highlighted nicely and it installed fairly easily after I fetched the neccessary .NET package.
What I like is that it has a window for keeping track of variables and :headers, and another that shows the script references. I'm still playing around with it, but it is pretty sweet as is. Which brings me to here, wondering where to start listing requests for 'tweaks' to those who can help bring this code along?? Ex. when I save a script, the box pops up to say "24 lines saved" and has to be closed out, every time. This stuff is kinda trivial, but wondering who else will be working on this and where do ya'll want requests posted?
Prom, do you have specific problems with .Net framework? I admit to being too eager to try a new toy to exercise caution...

Prom, do you have specific problems with .Net framework? I admit to being too eager to try a new toy to exercise caution... The only issue I have with the .NET framework is having to install it to get a program to work. When a program requires additional installs to function, I like to know that up front. The you have to install this to run that just clutters the drive and registery. I would be careful on requesting anything as that might be construed as a "negative comment" by someone.

Finding it, if I wished, to install would not have been difficult, just another step. As I posted to another user, it seems that we continually bloat our drives and resgistry with applications (.NET framework in this instance) just to be able to install another program.

Re: TWX Script Editor (TWXIDE) now available from Grimy
I have updated the original post with links to the the .net packages. The .net framework actually prevents drive bloat, for reasons I will be happy to discuss in another thread.
Thanks for the feedback Crosby, and post any requests here, or in a new thread if you like.
