Ok, I'm trying to start a 5000 sector game for me and some friends (for the time being, till we get back into the swing of the game) and I noticed the "new" setting for bubbles creation. the problem is that it doesn't seem to want to let me set the bubbles any smaller than 100 sectors. One would think that the lower end would be quite reasonably small, like 10 sectors, with a maximum cap at say 200 (given universe size, all things remain relative...)
Am I missing a setting somewhere, or is this a bug (that I would hope gets fixed soon)?
Next question, in general, what is this "Jump Gate" thing on the configuration panel?
Sorry for acting like a total Newb, but the answers do not apear to be in the Forum Archives, nor in the suprisingly incomplete help documentation.
From such a small development team, I can understand the lack of documentation from the programmer's perspective, but from a professional standpoint, I'm rather sorely disappointed.

I've never had a problem setting bubbles to 10 sectors before. Are you doing that on the bang screen?
Jump gate is going to be a way to get your new bangs broadcasted to a database so others can automatically see them and play there.

The bubble settings that you speak of affect Gold Bubbles. In a normal bang, bubbles are inherent and you don't need to do anything special. But these normal bubbles will only get to about 10 sectors in size in a 5K universe. To get really large bubbles, you turn on Gold features and configure these Gold Bubble parameters, enabling bubbles encompassing between 100 and 495 sectors.
There are no special tools to create bubbles encompassing less than 100 sectors.

Setting up Bubbles is somewhat complex, here is breakdown of their basic settings, you can set up 0-100 individual bubbles within the universe with each Bubble containing 100-19,900 sectors; all dependant upon the actual size of the universe… these commands setup their entrances tunnels lengths, etc. You will notice all of these commands work together to determine the end result/Bubble config.
K - Determines the number of bubbles to place within the universe, from 0-100.
L - Sets the minimum number sectors to place within each set of bubbles, from 100-maximum setting as entered for setting ‘M’.
M - Sets the maximum number of sectors to place inside of a bubble, i.e. from minimum setting as entered from option ‘L’-size of universe (with a highest possible value of: 19,900.)
N - Sets the minimum number of open-space (exterior) or adjoining bubble sectors to individually link to a given bubble, from 1-maximum setting as entered for setting ‘S’.
S - Sets the maximum number of open-space (exterior) or adjoining bubble sectors to individually link to a given bubble, i.e. from minimum setting as entered from option ‘N’-100.
T - Sets the minimum depth of any tunnels connecting a given bubble to the universe or to another bubble, i.e. 1-maximum setting as entered for setting ‘U’.
U - Sets the maximum depth of any tunnels connecting a given bubble to the universe or to another bubble, i.e. from minimum setting as entered from option ‘T’-10.

these gold bubbles were commonly referred to as "mega-bubbles." when JP introduced them, the code was buggy and produced corrupt universes. i lost track whether that problem was fixed or not, but i assume it was. megabubbles were very difficult to identify, but once you correctly identified one, you could control a great deal of realestate by holding one sector. in tournament play, this meant you could farm your own private 100 sectors without fear of attack within and quite often led to massive gate assaults and stalemates. you had to put a fig in EVERY sector, because some smart guy would try blind warping into your bubble and set up an inside attack.
i remember farming a megabubble to eek out a win in one of my earliest tournaments - our ceo went afk for 2 1/2 weeks but we just stuck to basics and pulled it off without him. hell if i can remember which tournament that was, though, and i can only remember four of my corpies - prestone, zep, fc, and banano. i'm not THAT old, am i?

Heh, good story.
Yeah old timer, you've got to be pushing like 30 by now
And you know what they say... the memory is the second thing to go. I forget what's first

Thanks all, esp Singularity and RexxCrow. I Figured that it was something along those lines, but wanted to check to make sure.
