Hello
I have just started playing tradewars and not doing very well. Here is what I have done so far. The first few games I just wondered about cashing trying to make money trading at port pairs. In the third game I played I started playing red in an unlimmited game. Was doing quite well and cashing about 200 mil a day. I started making planets and upgrading them. I then got into a battle with another red and ended up going blue. Not sure how to get rid of 70k of alignment so I stayed blue and started spending more time building planets. When cashing I could only make about 40 mil a day while blue. When trading I was using the scripts with TWXProxy the worldtrade and the worldssm. Move forward a few days and I have a level 4 planet a level 3 planet and 3 level 2 planets. For two days i got killed while trading when I come back on someone had destroyed my planets and I have lost everthing. Please can someone give me advise on other things I should be doing while blue and red.
Would anyone be willing to let me corp with them in their next game so I can start learning how to play the game.
Sorry for the long ramble
Mark

In an unlim... IMHO it's a waste of time to colo unless you have something
around to protect your assets (like a red, a good grid defense or a truce
and an active sysop). It's simply too easy to grid out the universe and invade
everything. In this style of play "alignment flips" are a common strategy
to defeat solo players. Usually done w/ ftrs in key areas, but a ship 2 ship
will do the same thing. Once you're blue... you've got no long-term prospects.
The solution is to either get a mixed corp, find a blue to kill, cby right
before extern and hope to get on or play a lower turns game.

markr - depending on the edits, in an unlim you should be cashing in excess of 150M / hour and even that is low with some scripts hitting a lot higher. As Sing pointed out, you have to have an active defense, a truce, or one heck of a base defense or you will be invaded.

IMHO (bear in mind I do not play unlimiteds) unlimited turn games tend to be won or lost in a metter of hours, sounds like you played several days. That is pretty darn good.
I would corp with just about anyone, but do not do the unlimited thing.[;)]

Kill the red, take the cash, buy a very good ship, kill the blue, take the bases. At least that was the progression in the game I am in now. As Severian said, less than an hour, but catching the red with 100M was a stroke of luck and the blue having a mid-range ship with few figs was even better.

Thank you for your replies.
The reason I am playing unlimmited is so i can used to the game without being restricted by turns. Not sure if this is a correct stratergy.
Where can I get hold of a script that makes me 150m an hour. Currently in a new game and I have taken haggeling of and I am still only making about 50mil an hour. An when I leave it running while at work I come back find I was disconnected from the server about 10mins after I left or I have got stuck somewhere.
I have read the guides and they talk about SDT and SST I guess these are more for turn games as they take too long to set up.
I also have probles attacking other players not sure how to do this do you just attack and hope you first wave of fighter kill the ship.
Is there also way of finding Ferengi as they seem to have quite a good home planet. Also in the current game alians seem to have the best ships how do I capture them.
severian I would like to corp with you sometime in a turn limmited game I am from the uk not sure if the time differance will be a problem.
Thnaks again Mark.

Heck, just fire up Xide's worldSSM. It's not as fast as others but it'll
do in a pinch. Finding the ferg.. grid. Probe. Pretty easy really. Usually
you just grid and watch where the fighits are, then follow them back to
ferg space. Of course that tends to not work for internal aliens... so it
depends on that.

On the script: Xide's turbo sst that comes with twx will do ok, but has a tendency to get one killed or flipped blue. It is good it truce games or where the skill level you are against is fairly low. It sounds like you may be using SupG's wssm script since I seem to remember it in the 50-65M range per hour.
To handle the disconnects you can use CK's relog script. It is available at grimytrader.com along with some other very useful public scripts. AFK cashing or gridding is a good way to die, but if I won't be back until after extern I only lose a ship and maybe a little cash. Coming back into a game can be an experience, but that depends on the level of play and the hostility of the players.
To find alien planets, cash and then probe for hits. This is really only effective if the other players haven't put out a fighter cloud yet, however you can get lucky.
To cap an alien ship: Send an attack wave to kill their shields - making sure you don't send enough to kill them if they don't have shields. Then send one fig at a time, let them attack and repeat until you capture their ship. Obviously make sure you have enough fighters/shields that you aren't the one that loses.
The tactics involve more than I have time to type. The best way is to use this as somewhat of a guideline and play the game and learn. I am sure others will have input.

The script I am using is the 2_WorldSSM. I have looked into using 2_sst but I have never got that to work aways robs form the first port then exists the script. Which script should I be using. I am currently in a game and I upgraded my planets to level 6 and have a few questions.
1. How many shields should I put on the planet I know you need more than 200 but I think I should be putting more than this on.
2. What should I be setting the cannon too.
3. Should I turn the the indictor control.
I would also like to know what I should be looking to do next. Should I be trying to fill my planet up with fuel ore by upgrading ports. Should I go looking for based to invade (Dont think I have much chance in invading because I am on my own and there is a 5 man corp in the game). Should I start trying griding I have been doing passive griding by leaveing 100 fighters whereever I go but should I be more pro active. I was also playing last night and I got turned blue again while cashing as the other red team had left big amounts of fighters which I automatically killed. Did have -4mil alignment at one point so not sure how I lost it all. Is there any quick way of losing 200k of alignment. Also what should I be doing with the money I am making should I just be buying Fighters and placing them on the planet / sector.

Well that depends, if mbbs is not on, you will lose great amounts of alignment if your attacking their figs. Heres the formula so you can see for your self. (player or corp alignment / 10000) * # of figs you lost.
And check out tw.cabal, that is where I grabed this formula. It has many others as well.

Time Diffs usually are not a problem (LOL unless you are in the US, then I can never be sure if they are behind my time or ahead.
I will look for one for us, and we;ll work out the time thing later..
ATM I am playing a game that takes priority, so I was in I'll look and see if I am still alive.
Email or ICQ me and we'll work it out. (if you use ICQ I have to authorize anyone, so make sure you say your name or it is related to TW and I'll authorize you)

In a 5 v 1 situation you're kindof in trouble. The "what should I do?" is all
specific to the edit and the situation and the rules and your style of play
and etc, etc, etc. So general rules won't work too well. Best thing you can
do is find a game where you can develop from the start and be equal w/ everyone
else. A quieter board maybe, maybe a time limit to give you some peaceful
time to build and get used to different things.
If I was in your case I'd not worry about invading or fig count. I'd wait for
them to be offline and grid like a mofo. Then pdrop when they came on, kill
them and haz fed. But hey... that's just me. Maybe find some small guys and
take their stuff to build with. Probably get you killed, quickly, but atleast
you get some action out of it and with some luck you get a draw game and a
chance to laugh at an upset. Of course that depends on your keytime and
style of play, too. Can't just do that for 1 hour a day and expect it to work.

Unlimited turn games are a great way to learn the basics of what the game is all about. The best thing to do in an unlimited, if your solo at least, is to get red asap, ie: port pair for a couple mill, jet some colos, and bust up planets. The faster you can get red and up to about 5500 exp, the faster you can secure a game. Xide's wssm script was the first one I used as well, then I started using SupG's wssm, and it seems to cash just a bit faster. On a cable connection, with wssm, you should be making atleast 100 mill an hour, if you can find a world sst script, you can make upwards of 200-250 mill an hour on a cable connection. If you would like hit me up on ICQ, and i'll show you were to get a wsst script.
Building planets in a unlim game has one purpose, planet drop. Its not possible, well almost not possible, to have colos out produce a red can make running 24/7, but planets are a great way to secure the game after you kill all the in game players.
To recap, get red as fast as possible, find the class 0's as soon as possible, use the class 0's when ever possible, terra will get you p00fed, so will the class 0's but if you find them first, a little less likely to get hit, make planets only to secure a game, planet dropping and what not.
Hit me up on ICQ if you still need help, always looking for a corpie.

Markr you did a great job. although i am upset cause i finally find you and the op rebangs the freaking game? what is that all about? For being solo you managed to have quite a few planets that were level 6 and hid your sector well, although the reason i found you was the mines. you had em about 4 sectors out from your base and i just followed them to where you were... I am having connection issues with my cable modem so I am currently on dial-up so I won't be in this game but next one I will be.
