in stock games, basically the ships you will use for the most part are:
red - corp flag/havoc, colonial transport
blue - iss
other miscellaneous ships for specific purposes include:
scout - 2:1 offensive odds makes this a tempting ship to do offline invasions and stardock kills on day one.
merchant freighter - trade your cruiser in on day one for this ship with 2 turns per warp, its the best trading ship you can afford in the beginning. later on, merchant freighters with 63 holds are the perfect "furb".
tkasi-orion - occasionally, this ship is a decent scouting ship.
cargotran - decent early red ship, but you should graduate to a colt fast.
taurean mule - decent early red ship, but you should graduate to a colt fast.
missile frigate - great photon ship. i dont recommend keeping photons on your iss too often. better to photon from the missile frigate and xport into your iss to do the work.
tholian sentinel - early corp planet protection, but if you rely on this ship later in the game, you will get caught with your pants down.
battleship - 1.6 odds makes this a great offline invasion ship when the planets aren't shielded yet.
interdictor cruiser - the premier invasion ship. its good to have an extra in tow when you head in.
absolutely worthless ships: merchant cruiser, constellation, and starmaster
