Ok...please tell me what I'm doing wrong. This is the situation.

I have 4.5k exp. points. I'm in a corporate Flagship with 85 holds. Now...according to the theory of holds*25=exp. required I should be able to do the port sell, port steal, move, port sell, port steal. Right? WEll...I do this but after like 10-15 times I get busted. I gain somewheres like 300exp and then lose like 500 exp. I'm getting some money but my experience is actually going down. I've done this now about 10 times and have lost lots of experience. NOw I'm not buying more holds just using the holds it knocks me down too. What am I doing wrong? Or is this just the life of an evil guy? Is this admin configurable? If so...how would I find out what its set at? Thanks...

Rocky

Where to begin...

First off, exp/25 doesn't work in all games. This is configurable. Check out http://tradewars.fament.com/Cruncher/Formula.htm or http://www.eisonline.com/twforum/topic. ... IC_ID=2035 for information on how to find out what it's set at.

Secondly, there will be a cap on the amount of exp you can have depending on your holds. In your case, every time you steal, you gain 7 or 8 exp. When you bust, you lose a % of your exp (I've never bothered to figure out exactly what it is). Basically, you are not gaining enough exp while stealing to offset the % loss of your exp. If you continue in your corp flag, you should eventually hit a spot where you exp levels out.

Thanks for the info. I think I'm maxing out at 3800 exp. :( I was hoping I could get enough this way to get to stealing 250 at a time. I'll figure something out.

I would suggest you buy your colts and just do partial holds in them. As you get money, create and blow up (bang) planets. In a stock game, it will cost 35k credits for one gen and one det, and you will gain 75 exp.

Also make sure that if you're not up to max holds, that you have extra holds in your ship and extra equipment on dock. That way as your experience increases from stealing, you can steal a little more and make more money and gain more experience.

And here's a tip some don't know: You don't need to visit a xxS port to fill your holds. Just upgrade the xxB port by 1 unit for every 10 holds of equ you need, then steal the created product.

Suddenly you're Busted!

Ok, this is getting real annoying. I checked out the link and this is what I came up with.

Quote: "RobFactor=100% StealFactor=100%
exp/30=holds to steal
exp*3=creds to rob"

That was from the forums. The game i'm in is set at 100% steal and 100% rob. I played normally as a bad guy and used the blow Plannet method and trading to gain exp. Now my exp was at 5500. So...5500/30=183. I'm still using the same corporate flag ship with 85 holds. I should be just fine right? Well...about 100 turns later and now my experience is 4200. I'm playing it safe yet I'm still busting constantly. I'm not going to the same ports twice. I just don't get it. Could it be that I'm not stealing enough?

Exactly right. You will stand the same chance of busting if you stael 85 holds or 183. BUT stealing 183 at a time is gonna double your income and allow you to bust planets, buy more holds as needed and still have cash left for other things...

My last game I was in a corp flag with 125 holds, and SSM'd alot to get my exp up. Sometimes I busted a lot and my exp went down, but just stick with it, and when your exp gets fairly high, and you have a lot of cash. Go bust planets to get your exp over the top. and add a little extra exp just in case. After I had enough exp to steal 250 holds, I loaded a full Colt and towed it around everywhere. Whats good about towng a ship around is when you warp around, you always get a prompt to scan, which is quite useful for me.

Ok...now look what happened. I got my exp. up to 72xx which is good enough to steal the 250 and then some. Well...I take my transport and start SSMing and busted after making about 600k. Ok...so this takes 750! exp. I go SSMing again with the holds it nocked me down to. (228) I Started my SSM and 3rd time BUST! I just don't get it I guess. :( Just bad luck???

Could be bad luck, OR:

Much of this depends on what helper you are using, some will stop you from doing this, some not, and some I just do not know if they do or not.

Once you bust at a port, you can not rob/steal or trade there until the bust is cleared (porting at a busted port to trade will produce what is called a "false bust" where you bust, even if doing nothing)

In your SSM or SST cycle (whichever you are using) you have to make sure the settings do not have you going to those busted ports.

If none of the above fit, then it is just bad luck...

Well, its not that. I'm using Swath and that program rocks! Hmmm...I'll just stick with it. Perhaps I should just stay good and quit being so evil. heh

On your swath screen click on edit then preferences then parameters, I think the stock setting for steal factor is 30 try changing this to 20 or 25 and see if that helps, I have tried this before and it worked but it could just be the luck thing.

You said earlier that the steal factor was 100% Even if you have 7299 exp that means you can only steal 7299 / 30 = 243 holds. You were trying to steal too much, which is why you busted. After losing 750 exp, you could only steal 218 safely, so you busted again.
