hrmm, this isnt smack talk so ill keep it civil... wtf is the point in this *** **** thing? i would think most people would be smart enough not to buy one.. (ive noticed from captured ships that i am wrong)... is there something i am missing? can we please not have on in v 3.12.XX or 4.XX.XX or 3.11.XX PLEAAAAAASE. god.. i actually xported and ported with one without knowing.. i wanted to cry. its SO GAY. ok, ill stop the ranting.. i dont think ranting about a psychic probe constitutes a need to be in the smack talk forum as the pyschic probe cant fight back, but ill end it up so i dont get too colorful. heh, anywho.. im pretty sure i asked a question at some point in there.. so if anyone choses to answer that would be wonderful.

As I recall it was to give the player an idea of how close his guess was on the price at the port he just used. Way back then there were no scripts to calculate MCIC or port profits and things like that so you had to guess and try and figure out how close you were to make a better guess next time. Remember that people used to actually sit in front of their computers and actually play this game and did it all by hand with paper and pencil, a concept that seems to have gone the way of the dinosaurs. Not to split hairs with the script clowns but I think TWHelp was the first actual helper and used the first couple percentages to calculate its offers and usually just about every trade after the 3rd one was for 5 exp. As for today, that part of the programming has been changed for getting 5 exp so in my opinion the psychic probe is now useless and just there as a fashion statement for the ill informed who think it does something productive.

Not fully dead it's not..
You'll need to explain MCIC to the OP however.

I think it's good for people who might still play by hand, It's also useful for other things too, in todays games you rarely would need it.

Trading is an art, and it pays well. No, not a few creds... millions. That is the potential difference a good haggling routine and an understanding of MCIC can make... in a single night, by a single player. Multiply that by the number of members in the corp and it can be the difference between winning and losing. Traitor ( http://www.tw-cabal.com/strategy/economy2.html) and Cherokee ( http://tavern.homeip.net/TWGS/haggling_lessons.cfm) can help you understand MCIC, and I'll be providing a script ( http://jroller.com/page/ElderProphet) in a matter of weeks that will take profit to a new level. Yeah, a shameless plug.

yes EP u tha man, but to a non-script writing guy, using a probe to understand MCIC is pointless. ive read the cabal and ck's. good info, good guys.

Okay, using the probe for most people is pointless I agree. It's still quite useful for a few purposes.
Let me clarify something that alot of people don't fully understand: The P-Probe rating has nothing to do with total possible profit... merely how close your last bid was. You could sell 250 holds of Equipment, haggle poorly 4 times, hit 99.99% on the final bid, but only make 42,000 credits. Or you could do the same thing, haggle well, and only hit 97.99% on the final bid... but make 48,000 credits.
I'll get to all of this in my weblog eventually.
