i looked for an instance of these question in the "Search" option, but didn't see any.

1) i would like to know how the offensive and defensive odds work against each other. for instance, if you are in a ship with offensive odds of 2.0 and you attack a ship with defensive odds of 1.0, and you attack with, say 100 figs, do you destroy 200 figs, while you lose 100? (i think i have noticed an element of chance, too, which results in those figures varying, plus or minus.) to figure the odds of a battle, do you divide the offensive odds by the defensive odds? what i am asking is, would you get the same results with an attacking ship with 4.0 odds and a defensive ship with 2.0 odds?

2) does it matter how many figs you attack with? for instance, you are attacking from a ship with offensive odds of 2.0, and you use 10,000 fighters. the defensive ship has odds of 1.0, and figs per attack is 5,000. how does the battle come out?

3) what are the odds of fighters by themselves in space. defensive, toll, offensive.

4) is there a formula for calculating the results of battles between two ships? is so, what is it.

Many thanks for any help you can give me. i promise to tell all the other noobs.

I'm going to answer the 3rd part first. Sector fighters, regardless of their settings, get 1:1 odds. Now, all your other questions deal with the same basic thing. Here is how I go about figuring odds. Multiply how many figs you're sending by your offensive odds, then divide that number by the defenders defensive odds. That is the base of how much damage you will do. So 2:1 off odds vs. .8:1 def odds, fire 1000 figs, you do 1000 * 2 / .8 = 2500 damage. Now, there is also a bit of randomness built in, so that will vary. When you get into low fig shots, that randomness is much harder to account for in terms of capping a ship. I think this answer everything, but if you're still confused, let me know what you need clarified.

Here is a calculator for stock ships. its interesting in setting up different senario's and gives a nice feed back on how it works.
Thanx for the formula Harley.
