You did nothing wrong. You Just need a a faster CPU or better script to play your TW game for you.

I keep hearing people say the scripts play the game for us, but to me that's not the case. Scripts simply remove the tedium of entering individual commands by hand, allowing us to focus on higher-level tactics and strategy. I think of it a bit like being an executive instead of a clerk, or an officer instead of a front-line grunt.

Anyway, there's no way to be competitive against script runners unless I also run scripts.

You can break most scripts with macros.

I am not anti script. I have never played a TW game for 20 odd years without using scripts, and I particularly agree with your point about them removing tedium.

I am very much opposed to the use of afk scripts and bots.
With TWX's proliferation, they have, IMO, more or less destroyed the Game.

That almost sounds like it defeats your argument... if you can beat them with macros why are you so opposed to them?

I hear this a lot but I don't understand. I don't know of any AFK scripts that can work 100% of the time... people who go AFK are taking a huge risk running a script. The only time I can do it successfully is during a truce.

I suppose you could argue that a really good script writer with superior knowledge of the game can write true AFK scripts... but if they can do that then to me they deserve to win. IMO it's simply not possible... only a god could write a script that could run AFK 100% and win.

I do see what you're saying here, and I agree that it has probably played some part in reducing the size of the community. But it also has increased the quality of the play, IMO. Also, the fact that not just any Joe can play it increases its appeal to me. For these reasons, I don't agree that the game has been destroyed, but rather enhanced.

And anyway, with the new versions I think there are a lot of ways now to change settings to drastically decrease the utility of scripts, are there not? Now everyone can be happy, presumably, although it's too bad the community is already so small.

I think the real reason the community became so small is due to the huge number of hours required to be competitive in a game. Now that everyone can log in at the same time, and there is usually no time limit, a player feels they must spend every last minute of their available time at keys. At least, that's how I feel when I play, and it's why I don't play very often. I like trade wars, but it can't be my whole life. And with trade wars, it seems like it has to be all or nothing.

I'll rephrase - It is possible to break them. Not everyone is able to do so, newbies and retreads in particular, and it is with them in mind that I oppose the use of reactive attack scripts made possible in large part by the internal TWX database.
