You're right, Oso, the problem is that fun is to some very different than it is to others. And so many of today's players fall into the "killer" mentality. The game once supported explorers, builders, social players, and killers. Now it seems that the role of those other player types is to just be fodder for the killers. And anytime you have a situation where fun for a minority means turning away a majority, that's not a recipe for a successful game.

We have very clear evidence of what happens when one player's fun is another player's frustration. The only players left are those who enjoy killing. We can't force players to play this game. All we can do is try to guarantee that they can have fun playing it. Players like Vid don't care about whether another player is having fun playing his game. And a player shouldn't have to care about that. But I do. He's an expert on how to play a particular style of play, but he can't see beyond that style. I, on the other hand, have to be aware of many different styles of play.

Thankfully I have the feedback of a lot of players who don't agree with Vid. And there are gameops who have been supporting alternative game types for years from whom I can learn. Something like truce mode will go a long way toward restoring the "fun" for those who define it differently than Vid and the others who share his view.

How did we get here from a Ferrengi getting hit by a Quasar? ;)

I have both types of ferrengi in the game. JP is looking for ways to elliminate that possibility for newb sysops like myself. :)

Grid limits are great, as long as they can be turned on and off based on the game the GameOP wants to set.

As for a Gold Ferrengi hitting a Classic Ferrengi planet, do the Gold Ferrengis have their own planet? I always wondered that. It would be fun for each alien race to have their own home base planet and go after the other Gold aliens planets. Drop some fighters near the enemy alien planet and then the enemy aliens can attack the fighters and look for the other planet. Sort of an option for the AI Gold Aliens to go after the bases of other aliens or players. Not invade them of course but deploy fighters near them to make it more challenging. I suppose to make it tougher have the option for AI Gold aliens to invade planets. Maybe make all of it options, and the option to build planets and colonize them. So that players can find these alien planets and invade them if there aren't enough players in the game to fight.

But the Gold AI hitting the same 1 toll fighter dozens of times is stupid, I would like to see an option where it destroys the fighter and puts one of its own in place of it. It would foil the grids and make it fun to fight the Ai gold aliens for control of a grid. Limit the grid the aliens can make as well.

All as options of course, can be enabled or disabled.

The thing that upsets me in some games is where the Bajorians and the like fly around in Merchant Cruisers and don't pick any other ship. While the Ferrengi have their own ship classes. Could there be an option to choose ship classes edits for different aliens. Have the Bajorians have Bajorian ships the player can capture and pilot and set by the GameOp. It would be fun.

This is currently done in the editor by setting the race the ship type belongs to. Check out a Sub Zero edit for an example of this.

Gold aliens do destroy player fighters. Sometimes they also leave fighters around... usually a lot of them in one place. I'm not sure if there's a chance they'll leave fighters when they destroy one, or what.

This can already be done. Gold Ferrengi are just a gold alien race with custom ships.

In this particular game on my server, yes there are two races of Ferrengi, the standard Ferrengi and the Gold Ferrengi. Opps on my part setting up the game. But, it is kinda fun to see the two mothing each others cannons.
