I just wanted to run my general defense strategy by you guru's out there to see if i am on the right track..

step 1
1) figure out the most damage any one ship can take in the game assuming a 1:1 ratio.. So if the biggest ship can hold 125k figs and 8k shields.. n=133,000 damage

2) set Quasar cannons on shielded planets to do atleast n amount of damage k number of times.. K is the most numbre of players in a corp * 3.. Because if a player gets podded 3 times they are out until after extern.

3) If there is not enough ore on the planet to do n amount of damage k times then you must set your military reaction lvl high enough so that the atmosphere Quasar + the offensive planet figs do n damage at least k times..

4) I like to have a moth prevention planet(s) which is the lowest number planet shoots a sector Quasar with atleast 10k damage 3 times.

5) I am not sure what to think about haveing atleast n + 1 sector figs..

I hope this makes sense.. I have been trying to figure this game out for a couple months and i want to see if i am on the right track. Any and all suggestions and comments are much appreciated.

There are basically two effective approaches- you're either setting cannons to try to pod more pods than your opponenent has in a day (or potentially just as many as possible - especially in death limits) - there you'd set quasars pretty much as you described.

On other occasions, you're trying to set your cannons for a resource based defense (typically you do this if you have similar or more fighters to your enemies, have not that much fuel production, and more commonly in non-death limits) here you'd want to set them fairly low, particularly the first planets to shoot so they don't "waste" ore when an enemy comes in in a small ship.

It's a common misconception that fighters on planets will attack sector players if the military reaction is turned on. This is not the case. They will only attack on an attempt to land. Any defense aimed at keeping players out of the sector won't be influenced by military reaction.

On another note, when you leave fighters in a sector, keep in mind that they just get 1:1 odds and most ships get better than 1:1, so you will lose fighters faster than your attacker. If you have the fighters on the planet and military reaction on, they will get 2:1, and if it is off, 3:1.
