Ping times are fairly important in the unims that I play and something that we never see in regard to servers (mainly because an Op's ping doesn't mean squat) are ping times, so:

Please post your ping times on various servers. To be appropriate, don't post an anomaly (you were getting 160s and then it jumped to 300) unless it appears to be long term. Also include the time of day and date.

SysOps, if you see a bad ping time for your server, the time of day could be the time you are running something in the background or doing file xfers, and if so please say so. I would appreciate it if a couple of people would post their ping times on my server, RiverCity (rivercitytw.dlinkddns.com 2002)

Ping time doesn't always mean it's the server. If you get a good ping, it could mean you are close to the server and/or the hubs are all working correctly between your location and the server. If you get a bad ping, it could mean you have 1 bad hub between you and that server or that you are just too far away and going through too many hubs. It also could mean the server is occupied running defrag, virus scan, etc. Of course it could also mean the server or the connection is just slow. I've had players have 300 to 400 pings and I've also had players that have had as low as 110 average ping on Silver Wings. There are a lot of factors involved.

You could do an in-game ping time and subtract the actual ping time to calculate the twgs overhead, which would be a better indicator of server responsiveness than either by itself.

True and that is why I think it would be good if several people turned in their results for different servers.

Hey just for the sake of openness, I should mention that the external module in the M()MBot is ProPing. There is an actual built in ping, if you take ping.cts out of directory structure. I just replaced it with ProPing because of how much better and awesome it is. Just did a name change on the compiled script so that it was easier to call with bot, and so it would replace the internal ping command. When I uploaded the bot, I forgot it was there. But all props to Promethius on a great script.
