Why are you getting upset at your customers ... you're the one who doesn't have a license agreement. Besides, when there is no explicit text, certain things are implicit. A case could be made that the registration fee includes updates implicitly. i think he is getting upset because after 3 days of emailing back and forth and TRYING to help this "customer" this person wrote "Swath SuX" in the Classic TW forum....If i were Stein i would STOP trying to help this person...period..Don't give me this crap about being nice... you're running a business. It would be 'nice' if you didn't treat your customers with disrespect. It would be NICE if people your trying to help don't berate and insult you in a forum while still seeking help...Amazing...I would go out of my way to make sure i never did any buisness with this person EVER again...as i stated before give him a refund and tell him to take a hike.

Have some Respect dude The title of this thread say to me you have non. Destro, SG is right..if I was in steins spot and had to deal with a costumer like Maniac I would just refund and say sorry your not happy, good luck with what ever helper you deiced to use instead. Come to Smack boys and girls it's where this thread should have started.

Re: Swath's Copy Protection Sux (Part Deux)
Would someone tell me where I am wrong? I paid for a product that says I get updates. I attempted to install the upgrade several times. I finally gave up and contacted support. So far they haven't been able to help me nor do they give me a time frame when I or they might fix the problem.
I asked several times to have the locations of where the files that swath writes so I can do a clean install. They don't know where the locations are.
My gripe is with the support I am getting. All I am asking for is some information so I can do a CLEAN reinstall on my own, and if I can't get it fixed I'll give up.
Now tell me what is wrong with wanting that.
Could I be more diplomatic ? Sure but is being an a hole against forum rules?
Was my choice of areas wrong? Isn't Swath a Helper? If Swath is not a helper I will apologize to the community and shut my trap.
I have a legit request I may be going about it wrong but that is my choice and I will suffer the consequences.

Re: Swath's Copy Protection Sux (Part Deux)
The first line of your last request asks for input, but the last line seems to say "keep your opinions to yourself".
In the event that you want input... I completely understand the frustration, but I also recognize that Stein develops Swath as a labor of love. He certainly doesn't do it for the $300 / yr (I bet I'm close) he makes from it. If you act like a butt, he'll just stop developing his product altogether.
If you didn't want input... I hope you get Swath working.

I dont remember seeing those questions? Are you running XP or Vista? For 1.9x Under XP, the swath.cfg is in Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SWATH Under Vista it is under C:\Users\All Users\SWATH (This is where I found the files on my Windows7 install so I might be wrong) 1.8x the Swath.cfg is in the swath directory where ever you installed it. Helix, I don't think he's talking about Swath.cfg... he's talking about the installation itself, particularly registry entries.

Are you forgetting Maniac PAID for the help?? Sure his tone could have been more friendly, but you're acting like Stein has no responsibility to help him. Sure, he can refund the money, but that wouldn't encourage others to buy. Stein could have handled the situation professionally; instead he adopted Maniac's belligerent tone and made things worse. If he had handled it appropriately, Maniac would be feeling sheepish at having complained. Instead, imo he can feel pretty much justified, given Stein's reply. Whether or not it's a labor of love, Stein charges for the software. Sorry, but if you charge for software you are running a business and customer complaints are to be expected.

I would say you picked the right forum in terms of topic, but you probably should have been less smack-talk-ish. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to determine what is the appropriate area until the moderator actually moves it...

Actually, he's not the only one with a problem... I had the same issue, but I reinstalled my OS to fix it. Also, he doesn't deny that Swath is great - he's admitted several times that in general it is - he changed the thread topic from Swath Sux to Swath's Copy Protection Sux. Finally, I thought the topic was directly related to Helpers and Scripts. One could argue it belongs in Smack due to the tone, but we are talking about two different criteria for topic organization. Should the choice of forum depend on the topic itself or on the tone of the message? IMO it's the topic that's important, not the tone.

I think he must be talking about the .cfg (the placement of that file was a major change between v1.8x and v1.9x, at least for me it was, I edit that file all the time), if he meant the registry settings, a simple search in regedit would find the swath reg settings.

I'm curious to know what OS we are dealing with.
