Would there be any interest in having a wiki where we could put all of this stuff? I could set one up, maybe under manual.classictw.com or something, and give anyone in here access if they'd be willing to move all of this info into the wiki and help to manage it. There's so much great detail here, I think it would make an awesome wiki.

Oh yes please!

TW definitely need a one stop place to get all the information organized.

Right now its scattered all over the internet, and unless you know what you are searching for, you will likely not find it.

Knowledge is power, and easy to obtain power will help keeping the community alive, and who knows, maybe bring new souls in.

I've already made an effort to pull a lot of the TW stuff in to one place with the TW museum at http://wiki.classictw.com. But that's mostly historical stuff like all of the different versions, etc. I think a manual needs to be a stand-alone wiki and it should focus on the current game, not historical references to all of the different versions.

It'll be easy for me to set something up, but I don't have the time to move the info into the wiki, even though it's all right here. Maybe it's something I could do sometime, but not right now. I have too much going on. So the best I can do is open it up and turn it over to this community.

I think today's most comprehensive TW how-to manual is on Cabal.

Rather then re-write the whole thing, see if you can put a link or copy the whole web site for prospertiy? Who "owns" that intellectual property now, if you want to call it that?

Then maybe have "contributing authors" add a chapter or two here and there.

Once Cabal goes down, it'll be gone. I'd like to have something I can guarantee will be here.

Traitor and crew made Cabal, but I have a mirror on navhaz. If he doesn't mind, I can send you the zip for another.

Hey John, when do you expect to get the wiki online so community can start contributing? ;)

As soon as I have someone who's willing to take the lead on it. It's not that much work to do, but I don't want to do it and have it just sit empty.

well I certainly don't have time to lead anything, but I'm looking forward to contribute.

If I opened up a wiki at, say, rules.classictw.com, and turned over admin access to some one or a few people here, would you be willing to organize it and manage it, allowing anyone who wants to contribute but maintaining order, keeping everything on topic, etc? If I set it up, I'm basically going to need to just turn it over. I can't make time for it on top of everything else right now.

I'd be willing to take on the job. But writing and revising articles in a wiki isn't a job for admins. That's the beauty of it. It's a community process, and the result is usually pretty good as long as there are at least a few people interested in it.

An admin's role on a wiki is to lock contentious pages ("TWX is better!" "No, SWATH is better!" "I'll $#$&@** pod you, you dirty #($&@(*#!!!") and ban adolescent vandals. But I really doubt that would be a problem. Just disallow anonymous edits. It would be ideal if you could connect existing forum accounts to the wiki -- there might be an off-the-shelf MediaWiki mod to do that -- but I don't think anybody who wants to contribute would be bothered by creating a new account.

This is kjkrum. Got back into my original account. :D

Next time I need a break from my ongoing projects, I'm going to set up a private MediaWiki and start writing articles in anticipation of JP setting up an official one. TW Wiki needs to happen. It might even attract some new players, or bring back some old ones.
