Looking for some help here from one of you wizzards out there. Here's the issue: My computer crashed and has been replaced. Unfortunately, it's rather hard to find a new computer (at Best Buy anyway) that doesn't have Vista installed on it. So I'm being forced to learn Vista. That been said, things are begining to come together on the sucky o/s, but I have one issue that I've been ubable to overcome. It seems Vista is not Swath friendly. I'm able to connect in all my games through Zoc/TWX with no problems. However, Swath times out immediatly, followed by this: Authentication (Primary server)... Connection failed! Authentication (Secondary server)... Connection failed! Offline mode: Denied Error! I've tried different port, to no avail... If there's a solution out there, I sure would appreciate any help that might solve this one... Thank you so much... |

I am not a vista user, my guess would be that you need to set the ports up for use, as i am thinking your trying to run zoc/twx and swath at the same time? If not then there must be a help site for telnet applications that run under vista. I will see if i can find something for you and post later. |

I use swath with vista and have no issues with it. have you set the firewall to make swath an exception? |

Also, I run SWATH with Vista on my laptop. It would not run for me at first, but here is what I did learn: 1. I had to right-click the icon, goto properties, and set the Compatibility to Win XP. 2. Make sure the firewall/windows defender is not blocking the program. I too had the connection...failed message, and had to allow these programs. |

Thrawn I believe has hit it on the head here. Your firewall most likely is the culprit I do know they made the firewall more how should I say this... outbound hardened. Previously firewalls were to keep outsiders out and didn't really care what was going out your ports. Now don't take this as gospel but allow swath to poke a hole through your firewall and report back on the results. |

I want to thank everyone for your help on this one. However, nothing seems to have solved the issue at hand. I tried allowing Swath thru the firewall, made sure the port was open and available, and even tried shutting the firewall down all together, to no avail... Also tried the suggestion of XP compatibility mode. Alas, Swath still times out... Thank you for your input, but I think I'm about ready to throw in the towel on this Vista machhine and Swath... |

Ready when you are... One thing I really don't understand is the fact that the Zoc/TWX connection works flawlessly. But it refuses to connect when using Swath...??? This Vista o/s really sux... |

Hey FM, what version of SWATH yoiu use, 1.8.2 or 1.8.3? Cause if you have the earlier one, IE7 will not work with it, you will need SWATH 1.8.3 for IE7 to work with it properly. Try that and see if it helps. also on the SWATH site Stien had posted that fix on the exe for IE7, but if you are having that issue and you do have the 1.8.3 then I would agree that it is either a firewall issue or an antivirus issue, I had it happen to me once when I had the new nortons a/v put on the puter with the worm protection on it, that wouldn't let SWATH validate, untill i set an exception for it. |
