I was reviewing what I could find on planetary shield systems and found some inconsistent claims. Was wondering:
1. Do planetary shields protect you from photon missile attacks (loss of turns), and if so what is the minimum number of shields required.
2. Is there still anything to the magic 1639 shield number?
3. Do these values differ on the different versions of TW out there?

Planetary shields will protect you and your planet from photon missiles if you have at least 200 planetary shields (2000 ship shields).

Never heard anything about 1639, so i don't know what you are referring to.

I don't know if the values change for different versions.

Yes The do protected you from photons. If memory severs(and it doesnt always LOL) you have to have 300 shields on the planet to protect you.

No the amount of shields no longer matters other then needing more figs to kill them.

Its 200 minimum sheilds for photon protection. (199 and you are turnless)

Thank you all for the info. It was put to good use.

Very few will know of the shield bug (1639 does ring a bell) , it hadn't crossed my mind in years. To answer your question, it no longer works. It didn't even work in the HVS version of TW immediately predating TWGS.

For those who never heard of it - there was a time when if you had 16?? or more shields, your planet could not be invaded, the shields could not be destroyed.
