Terran (Earth like) planets are well stocked with every imaginable natural
resource, making them the only planets capable of efficiently producing
manufactured equipment.

At optimum worker levels, terran planets can produce 100,000 units of
equipment in a single day. However, the pacifist tendencies of terran based
colonists make fighter production less than ideal.

Terran planets have moderate defensive capabilities and relatively slow
construction rates.

PLANET TYPE K - DESERT
Federation economic rating: 47 credits per colonist group

Desert planets are hot, dry and very stable, enabling good fuel ore
production, and surprisingly high K3-A fighter production. The most likely
explanation for this odd phenomenon is that the extreme surface temperatures
encourage workers to remain in the supercooled K3-A assembly facilities for
long hours after their shifts are scheduled to end.

At optimum worker levels, desert planets turn out 50,000 units of fuel ore,
and 25,000 K3-A fighters per day.

Desert planets feature high power quasar cannons, large planetary fighter
bases, and average construction rates. The defensive capabilities of this
planet type are only exceeded by the massive Volcanic types, making them an
important part of the defensive strategy of newly formed corporations.

PLANET TYPE O - OCEANIC

Oceanic planets are responsible for providing much of the universe's food
supply. The largely aquatic surface of an oceanic planet is an excellent
environment for seaborne plant and animal life, including seaweed, fish, and
crustaceans.

At optimum worker levels, oceanic planets can grow 250,000 units of organics
in 24 hours. Specialized underwater storage containers allow for up to 6 days
worth of product to accumulate. K3-A fighter production accounts for 20% of
the economic value of an oceanic.

Oceanic planets have little usable land for defensive purposes, so
specialized platforms must be constructed to house quasar cannons, fighter
bases, and shield generators. This construction is costly and time consuming,
so the leaders of oceanic worlds often sign treaties with neighboring planets
to provide food stocks in exchange for protection from aggressors.

Mountainous planets are primarily useful for their highly efficient citadel
construction rates. The mountains allow for easy access to heavy metals and
large scale forestation provides construction grade timber. Fuel ore
production is excellent.

At optimum worker levels, mountainous planets can generate their maximum
500,000 units of fuel ore in only 4 days. Deep space ports have noted that
they negotiate far more planetary trade agreements with mountainous planets
than with any other type.

Mountainous planets provide respectable defenses in a short time period, and
are often chosen by young corporations as their first base of operations.

Glacial planets are universally renowned for their amazing fighter production
rates. The extreme cold allows for enhanced precision in the manufacturing
process.

At optimum worker levels, glacial planets can churn out over 125,000 K3-A
fighters in a single day. However, this planet type's extreme cold makes
refueling difficult, so fighter bases can handle only 10,000 operational
units. Tight export deadlines must be maintained in order for production to
continue uninterrupted. Therefore, the Federation rating of 60 credits per
colonist group is extremely difficult to achieve.

Since glacial planets cannot rely on planet based fighter squadrons to defend
against attack, they must rely on their high capacity shield generators
(which can be constructed in only 16 days), and their moderate quasar cannons.

Properly managed, glacial planets have the greatest production potential in
the universe.

Volcanic planets are extremely dangerous; both to potential adversaries,
and to their inhabitants. The magma layer volatility causes devastating
eruptions, and several humanitarian organizations have called for the
abandonment of all existing volcanic colonies. However, militant factions
in the universe prize these planets for their powerful quasar cannons.

At optimum worker levels, volcanic planets can produce 50,000 units of
fuel ore per day. They have enormous fuel ore storage capacity, enough for
nearly 3 weeks worth of production. However, this planet's heat and
volatility are unsuitable for K3-A fighter assembly facilities, and facility
improvements are a long term endeavor.

For corporations in need of strong military deterrence, volcanic planets are
hard to ignore.

PLANET TYPE U - VAPOROUS

Vaporous planets are mostly useless. Their gaseous atmosphere makes commodity
and fighter production nearly impossible, Defensive capabilities are almost
nonexistent. The harsh environment causes extremely high colonist fatality
rates.

The only redeeming qualities of vaporous planets can be found on their tiny
core of rock, ice, and a few sparse metals.  Due to the nature of their
formation, vaporous planets have a thin layer of perfectly refined fuel ore
on their surface. This naturally occurring fuel ore is usually stripped for
use by a ship's Transwarp drive, or sold to a nearby space port. However, it
may also be used in the construction of a basic citadel. The unique
characteristics of the planet core allow for a minimal citadel to be created
in a matter of minutes.
