was thinking that with the ablility to run a program at any time i was wondering if it was possable to update a blog with using blogger's post by email option.

i tried to do it my self but could not find a decent program that does the trick that i wanted to do on the net.

in order to post on blogger you need to setup a email acount that looks like username.secretname@blogger.com

and in the subject would be the name of the game. and in the body of the message would be the log entry for that day. everything else is taken care of by blogger.

if i can manualy get it working or if someone else could get it working please reply with the answer on how to do it. as, if i can do it, i will.

I meant to ask you for more details on what you meant by that when we were chatting, but I got sidetracked.

There is a feature set that I'd like to add at some point that allows the gameop to set the game up for reporting to various targets like an email or messager specified by the player, or a twitter feed. Sounds like what you're requesting would be another target.

I know Sage at ultimatetw.com does a lot of reporting like this. Until I do get something added to TWGS to support it, you might see what he's doing. I know he's emailing to players, so the email to blog thing might work. Then it's a question of what data to send.

the type of data would be the text from the log files as the body of the message for that day. and in the subject would be the name of the game that the entry is from. ie "Game A" "Game B" and so on. the date and time is already taken care of by blogger and if need be you can also add info "entries" to explain things as you go. that is what i was triing to do at my blog http://slother30.blogspot.com
but i could not get automation for emailing my logfiles except by posting them manualy.

Are you interested more in the daily log as can be viewed in TW, or the game log that can be viewed in the TWGS log viewer? I think the in-game daily log is best for this kind of thing.

I would think that you'd just want the previous day's log, not the entire log sent each time.

yep. i was thinking that, but in the mean time i was thinking that i could delete the logs as a workaround. but if you know a way to post the previous days's log without doing that, it would be great. and it would also be just what i imagened.

What would be really nice is if we could get TWGS to export the info to an XML file. From there, it would be a simple matter to do all of these things...

Since I suck at basic explanations, I'm going to plagiarize Wikipedia for this one. Blogger is just another web page, like any other.

Using it simplifies the entire process of gathering fresh data to be used just about anywhere on the net.

Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a set of rules for encoding documents in machine-readable form. It is defined in the XML 1.0 Specification[4] produced by the W3C, and several other related specifications, all gratis open standards.[5]

The design goals of XML emphasize simplicity, generality, and usability over the Internet.[6] It is a textual data format with strong support via Unicode for the languages of the world. Although the design of XML focuses on documents, it is widely used for the representation of arbitrary data structures, for example in web services.

Many application programming interfaces (APIs) have been developed that software developers use to process XML data, and several schema systems exist to aid in the definition of XML-based languages.

As of 2009, hundreds of XML-based languages have been developed,[7] including RSS, Atom, SOAP, and XHTML. XML-based formats have become the default for most office-productivity tools, including Microsoft Office (Office Open XML), OpenOffice.org (OpenDocument), and Apple's iWork.[8]

Using XML, I can create any type of web interface I want, I can also display the information in any web language, order or design that I wish. The idea is the data being presented would be completely dynamic in the sense that you could set it up to refresh the xml data as much as you want without a strain, even every minute if you desired and easily grab that info for the web page each time it's loaded by someone viewing it.

I C.

i will look into seeing if i can import a Xml file into my blog. if so, i can then just use my Xml file to update the blog that i already have. i am just hoping i can somehow do it automaticly. like i can with emails. if not, i still would like the email feature. it would be cool. or perhaps "Both" can be implemented.

either way it makes a window of what is going on visible to the public without ever having to login.

helps with the advertising for new players lol

I think you misunderstand me. TWGS does not have the capability to create an xml file at this time. It's in my wish list as a user

nope i read you loud and clear. i was asking if this feature would be implemented. but using XML files would be pointless to me if i cannot use them into my blog. what's the point of asking for a feature that i cannot use? that is what i ment by seeing if my blog can import xml.

I'll make a note of this need to access game logs in a more general way and see what I can do.

All the daily log stuff goes in TWOPENG.DAT, right? It looks like it would be very easy to parse and convert to XML or any other format you want. The community could come up with a solution, and let JP work on bigger things.

I could probably whip up a XML Schema and a parser/converter in one night, if someone is interested.

YES!! or a standard cvs (coma separated value) file. It is very difficult to get tables and data separated for use with sql. XML would also make for easy export for use in html.

Game D Twstats.txt output:

[Version]
Major Version=3
Minor Version=21
[Bigbang Settings]
Gold Enabled=True
MBBS Compatibility=True
Random Factor=2227723103
Bubbles=True
[General Info]
Start Day=05/20/23
Game Age=123 Days
Last Extern Day=08/05/23

Add a seperator ,
[Version],
Major Version,=,3,
Minor Version,=,21,
[Bigbang Settings],
Gold Enabled,=,True,
MBBS Compatibility,=,True,
Random Factor,=,2227723103,
Bubbles,=,True,
[General Info],
Start Day,=,05/20/23,
Game Age,=,123 Days,
Last Extern Day,=,08/05/23,

If done in CVS format, SQLite (or other database) can import the data much easier and not require an extensive script or .bat file to get the data into separate tables.
