 Re: Oldest TWGS list
The list (for now) is TWGS sites, not BBS sites. I'm importing older data to be fair to those who ran sites before TWGS was even released. TWGS came out in 1998, and that's the earliest info I have in the database at the moment, since I only imported my TWGS customer base, not all TW games. But I do want to include BBSs, not just TWGS.
Rev, I don't seem to have your registration on record. That doesn't happen often for TWGS regs, but sometimes. I'm pretty good about tracking my registrations. That's why the earliest date I have is when you installed v2. I'll back-date that to Sept, 2006. I probably have the registration email in my archives (they go back to 1998), but I'm not at that computer at the moment...

 Re: Oldest TWGS list
You know what Rev, I just found your registration in the museum registry. Don't know where the registration went, but it made it into my museum database somehow. And I have it from 2001-2010. Is that right?

 Re: Oldest TWGS list
I should also point out, and make this point on the list, that the only sites included in the list are those who have installed TWGS v2, because I have the initial registration date but other than TWGS v2 install, I have no other date from which to age the site.

 Re: Oldest TWGS list
the reverend wrote: also, i don't think the list is *quite* right regarding the text description: Quote: These are the oldest TWGS sites as determined by the number of days from the day the site opened until the most recent day the site was active. This does not measure the true number of days the site has been online, as it would be impossible to provide that information for sites prior to TWGS v2. But if a site was opened 10 years ago and was running recently, even if it did not run for 10 years, it will be listed as 10 years old.
Only the top 40 oldest game sites are listed. clearly, the top 40 oldest game sites should not include EIS TWGS which has been up for less than a year. the list doesn't even include fament. just sayin. and i'm not bitter about being left off the list or anything. oh hi JP. don't shoot the messenger. These are TWGS that mattered. Sorry for the confusion.

Is that right? not sure. i'm a little rusty on the details myself. i don't think i hosted a twgs in seminary (1999-2003) or during my internship (2003-2005) - because i was insanely poor during that period of my life. so that would put it out to 2005+. so perhaps the 2006 date is about right.

 Re: Oldest TWGS list
bwahahaha. my squeaky wheel routine got me on the list!!! looks like i bumped the twgs beta server. hehe. oh yeah. so seriously tho - there were really only ~40 twgs online during the past 20 years? my scientific wild Butt guess puts that number much higher, like ~100 or more.

 Re: Oldest TWGS list
There are only about 40 older customers who have upgraded to v2 at this time. I haven't reached out to the customers who own TWGSs (about 1800) yet, and I'm not sure how well I'll do anyway considering the email list is pretty old :( But if I manage to reach a decent number of them, I'd expect that list to change significantly. I probably will still only show the top tier, though. Maybe round it out to the top 100.
There have been quite a few activations on the new version, but many of these people have never run servers before.

 Re: Oldest TWGS list
Also many of the old twgs registrations will probably never upgrade. Eleq (The Stardock/Homesector) is one that comes to mind.

 Re: Oldest TWGS list
Well, I know Eleq was one of the first to run the new version, but just for personal use. If he ever brings Home Sector back online, I'm sure he'll run the latest version.
Anyway, if older ops don't upgrade, then they probably don't have an active server anymore, and I have no way of knowing how old their site was when it closed. Not much I can do about that. But I do know from experience that people have a tendency to come back to this game. I spend a lot of my support time providing lost codes to returning ops.

I've talked to Eleq several times about coming back, but I'm pretty sure that thing around is neck is a choker collar. Laff If he reads anymore, that should get his attention.

I emailed you a list of 27 active TWGS v1 servers. If there are any more than that, I haven't been able to find them and I have looked extensively.

 Re: Oldest TWGS list
The vast majority are private servers. But it's the public sites that tend to be the old ones.

I'll upgrade mine this weekend just to get on the list, but i'm going to be taking it offline for a month or so while i repurpose some hardware.
