Running a local only game.
One of my favorite memories of growing up is of logging into a local BBS and playing TW and Lands of Devastation. I'd like to set up a server running TW that would be accessible just from our local network so that I can play with my kids, just to give them that same experience without having to compete with more experienced players. Whats the easiest/best way to do this?

once JP is done with the beta release and it goes into wide, there will be a 4 node version available(apparently). perhaps this will suit your needs...

Whats the easiest/best way to do this? You can download the last release here: http://www.navhaz.com/files/twgs103.exeThis is not the Beta, but the last available public release of the TWGS. I don't recall offhand what it's limitation was (it has been a long time), but you can at least install it and check it out. If anyone else recalls what limitation this had without registration, please feel free to add.

4 node and the Bing Bag setting are real limited. But if you want a 1K universe for something to just mess around on might be worth checking out.

Yeah, that would probably be good just to start, there are only a couple of us, so one node will probably be sufficient. They are really a little to young ATM anyway, but I'm thinking ahead a little, and the newer beta should hopefully be out when they are reading enough to understand whats happening.

And who knows, I may learn enough to set up a full BBS for in the local network. It would be fun to try out LOD again too, assuming it's still around.

Re: Running a local only game.
One of the limitations was only a few minutes for a connection and you would have to reconnect alot to even enjoy a little play time.
But if cash isn't an issue , I believe $25 would get you gold and lite (4 node version) I'de suggest the gold only because a lot of good edits can be gotten online for TWGS.
With a little luck and praying , maybe the Beta will release in the next 6 months.
If your kids and you want to play on a fairly safe server , I may suggest mine , because my ping (server speed) is a bit slow ... most aggressive players don't play here.
And if you want a private game , I can set one up for you. I'm a nice guy dis-spite the way I play.
