Re: Beta test for TWGS v2.00/TW v3.14
Quote: Don't like the Beta?? Then play at one of the other Great servers. Don't spread hate or propergate false assumptions..Have a great day!! The newest version of beta with move delay removed and planet land and planet move delay added (originally I thought it was a bug but now I hear that it was on purpose for some reason no one understands) is not playable. It is not possible to stop gridding in any real way therefore any options as to play style and have been removed from the game. There is only one winning strategy for the beta version on the test site. This is not opinion or conjecture. I have tested it in an objective way. The software is broken and needs to be fixed before it is deemed playable. The exe needs to be rolled back to last playable beta so some real testing can be done and help John put out a new better playable version.

PH and Sing have both tested and proven both the bugs and how unbalanced the software is now.

PH and Sing have both tested and proven both the bugs and how unbalanced the software is now. i read every post..The Classic TWGS server runs on software that JP has installed..
I'm sure when JP updates the software he will install that,,,In the mean time the Classic server will be running the same software as ICE9 and T0yland and other beta servers are running...which leaves plenty of other places to play if you don't like the beta software....while not a perfect solution,I will be using 1/4 move delay in an attempt to balance gridding. shrug we will see
Why all this attention on what *I* do? There are other beta servers still announcing games with out this attention. Go bother them.

Re: Beta test for TWGS v2.00/TW v3.14
Technically speaking... 1/4th move delay won't balance it. 1/4th move delay is 250*TPW, where-as 0 move delay should be a flat 250. By using quarter move delay, any ship over 1 tpw will be too easy to torp.
Would be nice to have a test game in the beta. Would like to run further delay testing, get an idea about how long the planet delay is.

So you are the one getting the responses. nothing more nothing less. If it bothers you that multiple people have done significant testing and found LOT’s of problems with it and we want to make sure people are aware of it. Why must you feel the need to take it as YOU getting attention. When you tell people “Don't spread hate or propergate false assumptions..Have a great day!!” You are down playing the issues at hand. While the rest of us are point out fixes and what the issues are. Try not to respond to this threads SG and you won’t get any more attention from me in this thread.

I posted that in responce to a hateful and ignorant post in which the poster made...i realise the beta has issue's . I'm sure the other sypops realise this to.Cheers!

I would suggest that all sysop's go back to a beta version B4 the delay changes in order to do some proper testing.Testing the version on the test site further is a waste of everyone's time. I don't know where the hate thing came in.

I don't know where the hate thing came in. that does not exist...this move delay change has been in effect for a pretty long time now i dont think it was ever caught because people werent gridding with competition in the beta games......dont worry though im sure it will be addressed now that it has become an issue. Cheers!

Yes but neither his post or your response is relevant to the conversation.

Would be nice to have a test game in the beta. Would like to run further delay testing, get an idea about how long the planet delay is. Move delay 0 or disablled should allow the game to run maximum speed. If you want a delay use the options. My server is fast, I cant stand playing on an emulated 386 sx16 so poor scripts can keep up.

My server is fast, I cant stand playing on an emulated 386 sx16 so poor scripts can keep up. Move delay 0 breaks a lot of things. It also makes gridding very very powerful. This is far more than just emulating an old computer, it's about keeping some balance to the game. Fortunately it seems JP has fixed this in the newest release.

Reading PH and Sings comments is what made it more clear, sometimes you see things server side that your not sure if players are seeing. From what I can tell on the latest beta is seems to be much smoother and a few of the players noticed without me telling them it was recently upgraded.

Re: Beta test for TWGS v2.00/TW v3.14
Having a small move delay makes a HUGE difference on system stability.
Previously, if you had a lot of people moving around, they could hit sectors as fast as the CPU could process. That seems to mean that the CPU got pegged pretty heavily on big grid runs, so if you have 5 people on the server gridding the entire machine will crawl to a halt. With the 250ms flat move delay back, it seems be able to handle gridding better.
