<Flame ON> I know I'm gonna regret saying some things here but I feel strongly about this. TWXProxy is NOT open source at the moment.... It is ElderProphet's project as no one but him can get the changes he has made unless HE makes a release. And as he is the sole developer no one else can assist him in bug fixes, features, testing.... so it takes forever and a day to get a new release/alpha/beta. As I have stated earlier can someone set up some kind of a revision server so people can get the latest version(s) instead of waiting till Elder thinks his code is good enough to let others see it. There are a lot of advantages to having more than one set of eyes looking over source code. Not to throw away Elder's excellent work I would like to nomimate him for Project Leader he gets to decide when we make an alpha-beta-release but he has to accept help from the community. I know a little Delphi from waaaaaay back so I can read the code but just can't quite grasp what Xide was thinking when he chose the path he chose, and adding something becomes very difficult because you will probably break something else. As for making releases I would volunteer to try and make a script that would check out the latest version, compile it to a binary and mark it as being cutting edge so we can get some feedback as to what works and what doesn't. This should be fairly simple as we are only supporting Windows at the moment. The problem is we need a version server, an ftp server and a compile machine (could be one machine I don't know.... This can also be extended to MomBot or any other open source scripts out there revision control systems can help a lot in development and give the opportunity for more eyes on source code to find the hard to see "features aka bugs". IMHO if we want to see TWXProxy 2.1 in our lifetime we are gonna have to help Elder..... </Flame OFF> Maniac SDManson@gmail.com Elder I mean no disrespect towards you. You stepped up to the plate and took over, I am upset that the community hasn't offered to assist you. |

I believe the source for 2.4 is available, but I would not spend the $$ to buy Delphi, and the free version of Delphi is crippleware in regard to 3rd party add-ons (Indy for instance, even though it installs with the distro, it is not available to use). The free version of Delphi will not compile TWX as far as I could tell. |

I'd love to get an svn or git project setup, would make revisions a lot easier. Now I will have to reinstall delphi and try again... maybe a good summer project to mess with. |

Maniac, <snip from another post> If you want to help EP, I'm sure he would welcome it. People have offered to help in the past too. But you have to understand that most TW players are flakes and once they realized the work involved, they bailed on him. Or they had their own vision for it and it conflicted with the direction EP was going. But you need to be serious, and you need to have a good grasp of the code. If you really want to help, why not pick one or two of the changes yourself in the existing code and show it to EP. THAT would get his attention and show you were serious. Otherwise, you're all talk. <end snip> |

I have a lot of respect for Studley Maniac... I mean, just the fact that he can call himself that means he doesn't take himself too seriously It has been my plan all along to have TWX hosted on an SVN server with the next beta release. I've set an ETA for that release of July 4th weekend, which is just 3 weeks away. Be patient until then. Prom, Sing, a large part of what I've done in this release will make it trivial for aspiring participants to download and compile TWX in a matter of minutes. Unbelievable I know, but wait and see. Thanks Traitor. But in truth, I've had little success in getting people interested in helping. Perhaps it was because it was too difficult to get started. But that is about to change. Regards, +EP+ |
