I think that if a player doesn't get on a corp within a few hours that account should be deleted. We've had several tournaments that allowed non corp players to interfer with the game by taking out grid, targeting players on corps, providing ztm's to a certain corp, etc. This is just like having an extra corp member in the first few days and shouldn't be permitted.

I see the point, but question how I can enforce this.
I'm not going to be sitting at the computer monitoring new players for 8 days till the game closes.
Suggestions anyone?

On the day the game locks all solo players get deleted?

I'm thinking that each member is going to need to register. It's the only way I can think of.
I just need to know that Player x is playing and with which corp. Once this is established if any strays wander in, they're not registered, and not a valid player.

Once again Kavanagh I mean no disrespect here but let me argue.

Kavanagh wrote:
I'm puzzled that nobody seems to have a problem that a gameop made a private arrangement with a Corp to bang a Tourney of long standing with settings according to their dictates.
Now we have the gameop even further pandering to that corp, asking what additional settings they would like.

1. I’ve proven myself to most to be a respectable gameop. I’ve made mistakes, I’ve owned up to them and learned from them and always been as transparent as possible to those players in the game affected. 90% of the players if not more I feel would stand behind me if my integrity was challenged today. I’ve always prided myself in being a sysop who listens to his players, puts up games his players ask for, and tries to run a respectable site with questions being handled diplomatically.
2. I believe I may have been confused about the “tradition of the winner picking the edit”. I can even see your point how this may create a conflict. We can alter that next year for sure, but it can’t be said that this is a private arrangement because it was discussed before BOTE 2010 was ever run. And that was public knowledge. If the community desires we can say here and now that next year this will change. How was it traditionally in your view? The gameop made the edit, or was it the same edit year to year?
3. I also don’ t see why your panties are in a wad because there’s only one change that’s been made sofar. Corp size from 6 to 5. It’s the same edits with that exception that were run in 2010 which they did NOT choose. I duplicated as close as possible the edits from the 2003 edits.
Kavanagh wrote:
Particularly since said corp have publicly boasted that the version that they have inveigled the gameop to use has bugs that they know and use, which most of the rest of us do not (either know or use, even if we knew them) .

1. I’ve argued this before, and I’ll say it again. I told them I’d host the game, and at the time only had a version 1.03 server running. I’ve been hosting this game since 2007 and hope to continue to host it into the foreseeable future. When I opened my V2 server I was asked to continue with BOTE on 1.03, and I’m not going back on my word to them. Period end of story.
2. This is actually in some ways a good thing. V1.03 has known bugs, they’ve recently all been posted in the forums as a list. We’ve played with these bugs for years and know pretty much how to handle them. The death limit bug is one of them, and has been handled. Our scripts and bots are designed around these bugs. We all know them, and the field is leveled for all teams. V2 has unknown bugs, not everyone has found them, not everyone knows what’s been reported or not, and not everyone has adapted their scripts to V2 like Kraaken has. By reverting to 1.03 we’ve taken away this advantage from Kraaken. Everybody has just the same ability to win this as Kraaken. The only negative is we’re not shaking down the newest BETA version, but perhaps a Battle of the Elite should be played on a stable platform, not a BETA? If it was V2.x final I can see that the game should indeed progress to the new platform. This may be the last year BOTE is played on the older platform who knows.
3. Their public boasting is dealing with bugs in V2 not V1.03 read it carefully.

Once again, I value the input of the veteran players of this game. I mean no disrespect to you or any of the past or present players of BOTE.
My goal is simply to keep this game as a Battle of the Elite, and continue the tradition of the game into the foreseeable future.

Well i'm sure everything will come together at a certain point and time. So Kav and Hatter are you ladies going to join the tourney? I could use some teammates as I am not on one currently :) We can win!

I think in the beginning we allowed the winners to pick the next server. The edit was always the same, very close to stock. The winners had no say in what the next edit would be.

I do see some adjustments that I do like, Fed ship limit = 0, and Debris clears 100%.

Other variations I noticed was 3 day port regen instead of 4. And Max planets per sector are 4 instead of 5.

One change that I don't care for is the unlimited time setting. Originally this was a TL tourament.

This is why I truely do hope this is played on the latest release next year, we now have settings that help to make this truely a TL game.

As for the bugs, when the latest release is played as intended, it's fine. The bugs we see right now, that have been fixed and need tested again, are triggered from the menu squatters. Big D was able to disconnect me repeatedly in the HHT. He wasn't even playing this game, just messing around at the menu prompt. Problem is, he won't tell us the trigger. I'm not a hacker, I have no idea how to attempt triggering this bug. If anyone else does, please let JP know so we can move forward.

Pre registration. You've given 3weeks notice

My experience has been that teams show up at the last minute. I don't want to discourage this as I'd like as many teams participating as possible.

I could perhaps, if someone wanted to write it as I'm not even close to enough of a scripter to attempt this, run a sweeper that looks at the players about once an hour or two, and deletes those players not associated with a team. This could be an inconvenience to a player who logs in just before the script fires and runs, but they could in turn re-enter again and join the corp they desired, or be deleted again in an hour.
I agree with Comet. Since teams must be sponsored, pre-registration makes sense.

This will probably take care of it's self since most servers will move on to the newest version by next year. TL games will only work if there are a few more changes made to not allow for 24/7 monitoring. With out some other changes being made to prevent such tactics why have a time limit at all.

We need 1 more player and I will forward the names of the 5 members from Silver Wings TWGS.

13. Players may have a hidden identity in the game, however the gameop must have this players identity for the purpose of making contact with this player if there’s a complaint. The gameop will not release this identity unless given permission to do so by the player.

This seems to be a consensus among those talking to me about it.
I guess we're going to modify this to a no alias game, pre-registration will be required.
Once teams are chosen, the team captain will submit the names of the players to me. I'll enter them into the game and email them their passwords.
so the new #13

Quote:
13. Players must preregister with the game op and will not play under alias. Team captains will submit the names of the players to the gameop, who will enter each player into the game, and email them their passwords. This also means that the gameop has to be given a clear way to contact each member of the team. Gameop will not under any circumstances give the password of a player to someone other than the player him/herself

I've also recieved information for another team as well.

I welcome both teams to the game.
Remember I need contact information for each player to send them their password to enter the game.

UTW or Boo Inc! are you sending a team?

Teams can enter the game up to 8 days after it begins. But they still need to register and have a password sent. As long as we can get it done before the game closes to new players they are welcome to enter.

Edit: I think game closes on day 8 so I guess it's actually 7 days after it begins they can still enter.
