Hmmm I am running Vista 64 bit also....
The plot thickens.

Daala runs Vista 64 bit and that was why I set up her VMware to run XP. It appears that every time she had two or more instances running and launched scripts, one or both of the instances had an error.

However, your issue is the authentication. Still I wonder if our issues and your issues are somehow related.

The main thing I don't like about SWATH is its phone home authentication since I sometimes don't have an Internet connection and am wanting to test scripts. I can easily enough bypass that by using ZOC, but would still prefer SWATH since that is what I use in games.

I know the author is trying to provide an application that can meet the needs of the majority of players, and that has added a lot of non-essential (in my case) features. Overall though it is a very good app. I know there will probably be issues with different OS's, but it works very well on Windows XP Pro.

Swath is Great. with the # of people that use it and your the only one with the problem how can you deny that, even if you don't get your silly upgrade Maniac quityerbitchin or at least do it in the right spot.

Actually, he's not the only one with a problem... I had the same issue, but I reinstalled my OS to fix it.

Also, he doesn't deny that Swath is great - he's admitted several times that in general it is - he changed the thread topic from Swath Sux to Swath's Copy Protection Sux.

Finally, I thought the topic was directly related to Helpers and Scripts. One could argue it belongs in Smack due to the tone, but we are talking about two different criteria for topic organization. Should the choice of forum depend on the topic itself or on the tone of the message? IMO it's the topic that's important, not the tone.

Before you jump to his defence...you do relize that he was getting assistance....maybe not as fast and emidiat as he would like..as proven from his frist thread with in 24 hrs...and for the amount of money spent I dunno what he really exspects would happen when coming at anyone in this fation...if I'm sellin widdits and maniac buys one from me..then has a problem with it and I'm tryin to fix the problem..he get a megga phone and starts running down the street bad mouthin my company in anyway...you tell me what would you think of that. why does he need to draw in anyone if he is reciving help.

I don't see anywhere with Stein saying he wouldn't help him...do you.

That is why I say it's smack just the theads name on its own.

If if made a post sayin "having a problem with Swath can some one help"
then stated the problem...fine.
and maybe he getts some Ideas..but to come out and try to bad mouth any helers anywhere other then smack is rediculous..and anyone tryin to defend it is even more rediculous.

How do you know he was getting assistance? Did Stein show you the emails? Cus I haven't seen 'em. The way Maniac tells it, they weren't helping, and Stein sure wasn't very reassuring in his public reply.

Um... okay, like I said, if you run a company then you better expect customer complaints. It's part of the cost of doing business. If you can't handle the widget business, don't sell widgets.

No... but I never said Stein said he wouldn't help.

And I disagree... The topic is directly related to helpers, i.e. Swath, and the topic is more important than the tone. Why have a helper topic at all if we're going to filter out half the posts? We might as well just make two big forum topics: Smack Talk and non Smack Talk.

The Smack Talk forum should be for posts that have no true OTHER purpose than Smack. This thread doesn't qualify.

Don't call me ridiculous dude, there's nothing ridiculous about anything I'm saying. I'm not defending his bad-mouthing, and I'm not even defending him... I'm defending his right to speak his mind when he feels unsatisfied with his purchase; I'm trying to make a point about forum topics and this community's obsessive-compulsive thread-juggling; and I'm trying to provide a little balance to the discussion. Everyone is jumping all over him because they happen to like Swath or whatever, even though he seems to have a legitimate complaint.

You put this in Smack talk and that's what it's gonna be... it ceases to be any kind of meaningful discussion. Just because Maniac started off with a negative tone doesn't mean it has to stay like that. His original post provided Stein with an opportunity to publicly deal with a difficult complaint; he could have defused the situation but instead he reacted impulsively to Maniac's criticism. If he reacts that way in public, how do you think he probably reacted in private? My guess is Maniac sent him some emails that were a tad on the critical side, and not just "oh please Stein if you have the time could you please please help me get this software working? I know I paid for it and I shouldn't expect it to work, but please could you find the time to help me anyway?", and Stein, not being the best at customer service, allowed himself to react in probably not the most appropriate manner befitting a business man, and that response prompted Maniac to post here. It's not like he simply posted without even asking for help first.

I'm not saying Stein has to help him.... it's up to Stein (well, legally he probabaly has to help, but I don't think Maniac is gonna sue for $26), but he has to face the consequences to his business... in my opinion his reaction was unprofessional, and there's nothing ridiculous about saying so. The freedom for customers to express their dissatisfaction is part of business.

I've agreed several times throughout this thread that Maniac's tone could be less smack-ish, but that doesn't change the fact that the topic is about helpers... it's not about plain old 'Smack Talk'.

I've seen the arguments in smack talk, and they tend not to really be arguments at all, but just a huge collection of personal attacks. As soon as stuff goes in Smack, everyone feels justified in saying whatever the heck they want (whether or not they actually believe it's true) and there is no incentive to turn anything to a meaningful discussion.

I have nothing against you Kewlbreeze (and incidentally, I don't really know Maniac), but we definitely disagree on this point.

Destro, the point isn't that he is asking for help in the helpers forum...oh wait he wasn't..

He posted to make a complain not ask for help...so nooooooooooooooooooooo it's not where you post that.

this is not asking for HELP

why don't you get this

oh and he said it him self that stien was helping him..just havin to play "E-mail tag" wich mean that they have been sending emails back and for but don't seem to be on at the same time.

That is my point. If you feel like you are defending him...well the action of doing so I veiw as rediculous

exsample....when you asked for help on your scripts that run out side of scripts I didn't jump on ya saying that your talking smack about twx or the scripts others have writtewn while Sing was helpping you...becuase you asked for help.
If you started off with TWX suxs or the scripts people have writen for them sux..well where does that thread go???
speaking his mind..fine goes in open discution..
Being dirogatory...goes to smack...come on now how can you disagree with that??

I think you are misunderstanding...

The forum is called Scripts and Helpers but it's not necessarily about asking for help.... the topic is about Trade Wars Helpers, in general (and scripts, too), i.e., Swath, TWX, Attac, stuff like that; it can be anything to do with Helpers & Scripts, not just for asking for help. The topic is not "Help me with scripts", it's "HELPERS and scripts"... and Swath is a Helper... even if he's not asking for help, the topic is still related to a Helper: Swath.

Anyway, I don't think it matters very much anymore (or it probably never mattered very much). I don't think you should be calling my opinion ridiculous, but whatever, I don't really take much offense.

Hmm I like that nick 'Destro'... I think I'll use it... thanks

and no hard feelings or anything, I've made that same mistake (i.e. misjudgment based on misunderstanding) plenty of times myself
