Before you jump to his defence...you do relize that he was getting assistance....
How do you know he was getting assistance? Did Stein show you the emails? Cus I haven't seen 'em. The way Maniac tells it, they weren't helping, and Stein sure wasn't very reassuring in his public reply.

Um... okay, like I said, if you run a company then you better expect customer complaints. It's part of the cost of doing business. If you can't handle the widget business, don't sell widgets.

No... but I never said Stein said he wouldn't help.

That is why I say it's smack just the theads name on its own.
And I disagree... The topic is directly related to helpers, i.e. Swath, and the topic is more important than the tone. Why have a helper topic at all if we're going to filter out half the posts? We might as well just make two big forum topics: Smack Talk and non Smack Talk.
The Smack Talk forum should be for posts that have no true OTHER purpose than Smack. This thread doesn't qualify.

but to come out and try to bad mouth any helers anywhere other then smack is rediculous..and anyone tryin to defend it is even more rediculous.
Don't call me ridiculous dude, there's nothing ridiculous about anything I'm saying. I'm not defending his bad-mouthing, and I'm not even defending him... I'm defending his right to speak his mind when he feels unsatisfied with his purchase; I'm trying to make a point about forum topics and this community's obsessive-compulsive thread-juggling; and I'm trying to provide a little balance to the discussion. Everyone is jumping all over him because they happen to like Swath or whatever, even though he seems to have a legitimate complaint.
You put this in Smack talk and that's what it's gonna be... it ceases to be any kind of meaningful discussion. Just because Maniac started off with a negative tone doesn't mean it has to stay like that. His original post provided Stein with an opportunity to publicly deal with a difficult complaint; he could have defused the situation but instead he reacted impulsively to Maniac's criticism. If he reacts that way in public, how do you think he probably reacted in private? My guess is Maniac sent him some emails that were a tad on the critical side, and not just "oh please Stein if you have the time could you please please help me get this software working? I know I paid for it and I shouldn't expect it to work, but please could you find the time to help me anyway?", and Stein, not being the best at customer service, allowed himself to react in probably not the most appropriate manner befitting a business man, and that response prompted Maniac to post here. It's not like he simply posted without even asking for help first.
I'm not saying Stein has to help him.... it's up to Stein (well, legally he probabaly has to help, but I don't think Maniac is gonna sue for $26), but he has to face the consequences to his business... in my opinion his reaction was unprofessional, and there's nothing ridiculous about saying so. The freedom for customers to express their dissatisfaction is part of business.
I've agreed several times throughout this thread that Maniac's tone could be less smack-ish, but that doesn't change the fact that the topic is about helpers... it's not about plain old 'Smack Talk'.
I've seen the arguments in smack talk, and they tend not to really be arguments at all, but just a huge collection of personal attacks. As soon as stuff goes in Smack, everyone feels justified in saying whatever the heck they want (whether or not they actually believe it's true) and there is no incentive to turn anything to a meaningful discussion.
I have nothing against you Kewlbreeze (and incidentally, I don't really know Maniac), but we definitely disagree on this point.
