 Capturing ships

Hi... I was playing in a server and I found an alien trader and wanted to capture his ship. I tried running the capture ship script but it kept saying to when asked to attack. So I tried doing it manually but it was impossible. Is there an option that the sysop can turn on or off to allow the caputre of alien ships? If so what is that option (so I can ask the sysop to turn it on lol since the server was set up for my friends and I). Oh and I've played in a server where every ship had this thing that when you attacked anyone it would tell you the % of the target ships shields that are left, what is that thing called (I also want him to turn that on too). Can it be activated in a single set or does he have to go and activate it on a ship by ship bassis?

I do not believe there is a setting like that for disabling the capture of alien ships but what will affect it is if the ship has a pod or not. You cannot cap a ship that does not have a pod.

Combat scanner, in stock edits I believe only the CFS has it and yes you have to add that to each ship in t-edit if you want the ship to have it.

well I played a game when I was able to capture Ferengi Assualt Traders (I thing that's the name) and this game has the same ship, but I am unable to capture them :S maybe it has something to do with the Combat scanners?

When I played games with aliens and ferengi I remember caping all kinds of ships it would depend on the edits.

Are these stock edits?

Otherwise the best help I can think of giving you would be to do this

Make a corp or make sure you are on a corp then surround the sector before using this mac use the mac over and over till you cap the ship.
If you use:
Swath: ay1^M ^M ay1^M ^M ay1^M ^M
TWX burst: ay1* * ay1* * ay1* *

Best help I can give you with out being in the game and trying it myself maybe someone else will chime in or if you don't want to give out the server addy pm me the addy so I can logon and try it myself.

yes, if the ships have no pods, they can't be captured.
stock edits the battleship has a combat scanner as well.
combat scanners dont matter for capturing ship (just makes it easier, heh)

when I try attacking with only one fighter it just says the ship is surrounded by a powerful force field. and then I lose that fighter.

ok
well its cause the ship has shields.
you have to destroy the shields before you can kill the figs
and you have to kill the figs before you can capture/kill the ship
which is why a combat scanner comes in handy, it can tell you how many shields they have left.
if the alien has a buncha figs on it, throw a good sized wave at it trying to get read of those shields.
once you are killing figs, you know the shields are gone.
then, get it to really really low figs and attack with 1 at a time.

Shady, your forgetting defensive odds, dont odds have alot to do with the capturing of ships? I know that defensive odds on a ship can be a *****, depending on what odds your ship, and the ship you are attempting to cap has, you will have to adjust your attack wave accordingly. Or can you cap a ship with 1 fig if it is at 0 figs and shields no matter what??

Dex to answer your question, it depends on if your using Gold or not. And to edit the alien ships you must simpily select it from the "ship edit" prompt, find the correct alien ship, go to the correct tab, I think its 5, eh, havent edited a game in a quite a while, and simpily set the pod to yes then select a pod for the ship...

You can capture a ship with 0 figs and 0 shields with one fig regardless of relative odds between the two.
