 3 second photons
Is there a difference between MBBS mode and TWGS mode when it comes to photos dampening the figs on a L2 planet?
I was using the >PEL script today but could not get past the planet figs on a L2.
I wrote a photon script for Zoc and had the same results. I actually about a second to spare. The script worked fine landing on the L1's but not the L2's.
Atmospheric maneuvering system engaged> Registry# and Planet Name ----------------------------------------------- < 33> . < 35> . < 36> . < 37> . < 38> .
Land on which planet <Q to abort> ? 36 Landing sequence engaged... <-- I should have been able to land. [Pause] You have to destroy the fighters defending the planet to land. Fighters: 5000 / 201622
Photon Wave Duration has ended in sector 7402 <-- the wave ended after the landing sequence Option? (A,I,R,?):? R
You turn tail and retreat from this planet.
You were repelled!

You were repelled! Photons don't get you past the figs, they get you past the cannon blasts.

 Re: 3 second photons
Photons also suppress any military reaction which essentially makes all planet figs defensive for unshielded L2 or greater citadels. You don't have any problem landing on L1's because they lack control computers for the fighters on the surface. You don't even have to use a photon for L1's (other than for getting past sector figs).

Thanks guys! I do have to expand my invasion experiences. I've played mostly farmer, red casher. Invasions of L5's & 6's, no problem! I have very little experience up front assault/killer position.

 Re: 3 second photons
This speaks to another phot issue, which matters to those of us with really bad pings - mine is plus/minus around a half second to the US in DOS, without addressing latency.
A short phot duration, say 2 secs, can be a problem. AFAIR, the phot timer for say, a 2 sec wave, does not start at the time you launch, and last for 2 secs. Rather, it uses the game computer system clock and you might get anything from 2 seconds (if lucky) to 1.01 seconds. I remember Traitor wrote this up, and also a way to synch local m/c time to the BBS but cant remember how he said to do it to the hundreth of a sec, especially given than latency would be variable. Anyone?

 Re: 3 second photons
There are many and most are used in a specific tactical situation. Dnyarri's good. I would get them all. I have played in games where we used 3 or 4 different scripts depending on how our opponents were gridding at the time.

Write your own then there is only one person to blame if you die, and you can make it as flexible as you want building options daily.
