Passive gridding is the art of gridding (laying fighters) in sectors with-out hitting enemy fighters. This is important in all games where the enemy has more assets than you but most important in turn games. The reason for the importance is because if you got photon you lose all your turns!! There are many advantages to passive gridding and can be used in any stage of the game. The biggest advantage is you gain "grid" (fighters in more sectors) while using minimal turns and avoiding enemy advances. There are many great scripts for "passive" gridding but the one attached is one that I made a few years ago for use during a BYOC game. The passive girder takes advantage of the density scanner meaning it is cheaper to get started and also saves turns because it does not use the holo scanner (1 turn per scan). The density scanner looks for a 0 or a 100 (port) density before warping in and laying a fighter. Regardless of your skill this type of offensive/defensive work is critical because it gives you advance warning when your enemies are moving by having fighters in the universe but also allows you to conceal what you are doing! Enjoy the attached script and feel free to edit!

Always remember, there's a way to defeat any script. In this case, one of my favorite tricks is to lay a combination of armid and limpets that equal 100. People trying to passive grid a game with a D scan were constantly running into them. |

I agree with the basic premise (there's a way to defeat any script) but the above will not work against script or hand gridding; dscan shows anomalies. Might be that I do not understand "passive gridding", I never heard of that before. |

You are right Kav , the method mentioned is flawed because of the addition of the limpit. |

Yes, that would be true but the post didn't mention also checking for an anomaly, just a 100 density |

Master Blaster wrote: Yes, that would be true but the post didn't mention also checking for an anomaly, just a 100 density I thought the 100 from the dscan was meant to fool the script into thinking it was a port . The dscan would show an anomaly if there were a limpet and the script would know there was not a port there. |

The dscan would show an anomaly if there were a limpet and the script would know there was not a port there. This is exactly what passive gridding means. To dscan, and detect 0 or 100 density to see if the sector is "probably" empty or just has a port there. Any decent passive grid script is going to check for the following: 1) If it is no anomoly and 0 density, it is safe to grid. 2) If there is no anomoly and 100 density, it is probably safe but I suggest a holo scan (if available) to be sure. 3) If there is an anomoly it IS NOT safe to grid. 4) If there is anything other than 0 or 100 density, it IS NOT safe to grid. Anyone that doesn't use these rules are not using safe pssive grid methods, because I love to lay 20 fighters in sectos with no port which = 100 density and no anomoly. |

Yeah, 20 figs is cool but getting a couple limpets in the mix is better. The messages from hitting the mines mask the fact that you picked up a limpet. Experienced players can see through this easy enough but those that don't use safe tactics are always caught by it and can lead you back to their base. Just part of the fun of being an evil that loves to pester other players. |

Big D is right on the button .. Master needs to learn to play. Limpits foul the passive grid attempt. If you use limpits , you might as well pop a planet .. cause they are not going in that sector. |

I believe he said that the limpits only work on inexperienced players. |

Maybe your script went through the sentence so fast, it missed it. But you also said this: Master Blaster wrote: Yeah, 20 figs is cool but getting a couple limpets in the mix is better. Which contradicts your other statement about good players seeing through it, and also makes it sound like you didn't even read the previous replies. Clearly, "a couple limpets in the mix" is not better. Unless you define 'better' as being able to beat bad players but not good ones. |
