Hello:

I used to play TW years ago in high school, was addicted worse than a crack .. well it was bad [:D] but I never got very good at it. Just the other day I ran across a person playing TW at work. Well, damned if I didn’t start looking into playing TW again.

So now I am looking to start a small server for me and my roommates <as soon as my registration codes come in>, and I was curious if anyone could give me a few pointers on game settings that would make a fun game for us to learn TW on?

If you want to learn or relearn the game, (re)bang a game and leave everything as it is with the gold features off. Play with that for two or three days until you all have the basic commands, menus, etc., down and are comfortable with the game. Then play with the gold editor and see what it can do. You might want to go onto other servers and take a look at what other sysops have done.

This message is kind of old for me to add my two cents, but I would make just one change: Increase the number of turns per day. The default is only 250 turns. Bump that up to around 750-1000 and maybe increase the size of universe also. But leave planets, ships and all other settings default.
