I don't remember seeing this anywhere but i think it needs clarified... From what i know you get more exp for blowing a planet with colos on it. What i need addressed for me is the effects of blowing a planet with colos on it, cits ect, or anything else you can think of. The only place i could think to use this is after a safe invasion of anothers sector and your red needs exp so they cap the planets after a tow. I remeber seeing a difference but i don't remeber if it was only an align loss. If this makes sense, cool if not, well i'm sorry and if you ask i'll clarify.

The only thing you will get from busting planets with collies on them is the chance to end up in a pod.
The number of collies on a planet doesn't change your experience.
You do get more experience from blowing a planet with a citadel on it. The higher the level of the Cit, the more experience. I think it's 50 per level of the cit, but it's been a while since i checked.

when you kill colonists on the planet, you gain negative align.
it is 50xp per level of the cit, not sure of align.
no cit=50xp
lvl1 cit=100xp
lvl2 cit=150xp
etc...

Blowing up planets with colos on it wont get you more exp but will get you dead. While on the planet by using the destroy planet sub menu (Z) you can choose to attack the colos. It take about 1 fighter to kill off 1000 colos (remember one ship hold is equal to 1000 colos and planets show the colos in thousands as well so if you see 5000 that’s really 5 million)

Item Colonists Colonists Daily Planet Ship Planet
(1000s) 2 Build 1 Product Amount Amount Maximum
------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- ---------
Fuel Ore 5,000 616 8 0 0 100,000
Organics 0 307 0 0 0 5,000
Equipment 0 3 0 0 0 500,000
Fighters N/A N/A 0 0 10,000 1,000,000

You have 50 free cargo holds.

Planet command (?=help) [D] Z
<Destroy Planet>

º <D> Use Atomic Detonators º
º <A> Attack Colonists º
º <Z> Help! (What do I do?) º
º <Q> Never Mind º

Planetary Attack Command [Q] A
Do you wish to kill off some Colonists? Yes
Remember that your fighters will be used up after a few thousand firings.
x has 5,000,000 Colonists on it.

5,000,000 Colonists remain.
How many fighters do you wish to use? 10000 [0 to quit] 10000

For killing off 5,000,000 Colonists, your alignment went down by 500 point(s).

You've wiped out the Colonists!
