High turns will always do u good for blue or red...you can as lok for the prices of certain ships...especially t-mules and COLT's other than that, the games are pretty well balanced mostly.

When I play blue, I always look at planet settings...number of colos to build 1 unit of product or number of colos to build 1 fig. Under the game settings screen, I will check port regen percentage. And finally, just to see what I am up against, I check the settings more dear to the heart of a red...bust clear, etc.
What does everybody else do?

When I first check out a game to play in, the key settings for me are turns per day, daily time limit, bust clear if I plan on playing solo red, starting colo and Terra regen. These settings are usually the "determining" settings as to whether I'll join in the game or not.

Once I'm in the game, settings such as planetary trade, port regeneration, etc., weigh heavily on my long range strategy (which I usually plan out first day). For example, in a game where photons are disabled and colonists are limited, I'll play blue for several weeks to build a wall of Volcanics. If colonists aren't limited and photons are enabled, I'll go red and take planets as I find them.

Anyways, those are just some "off the cuff" things that I look at and how they affect my overall game plan. I play red predominantly, usually solo.

Here's what I'd say, off the top of my head ... it's not a complete list, and also not so cut-and-dry. Just a few settings that usually lean one way or the other.

I usually look at a whole ton of settings when I start a new game, and since I don't play solo very much the choice is somewhat less clear cut than "red" or "blue." But you are right that some settings generally favor one over the other.

Hope this list is helpful,

Renato

----------

Settings weighted towards blue players:
High rob/steal settings
Large Universe Size
High Colonist Regeneration Rate
High Initial Level of Colonists
High Etherprobe Cost
High Price of Corbo
High Planets Per Sector
High Cloak Fail %
High Port Production
Fast Port Regen Rate
Photons Disabled

Settings weighted towards red players:
Low rob/steal settings
Very high turns/Unlimited turn games
Low Colonist Regeneration Rate
Low Initial Level of Colonists
Low Etherprobe cost
Low Price of Corbo
Low Planets Per Sector
Low Cloak Fail %
Low Port Production
Slow Port Regen Rate
Photons Enabled

Excellent "thesis" on what settings favor blue and red players. I think a couple of the are reversed, but that's just my opinion. Regardless, many of those settings are the most important ones to me when deciding to play red or blue solo.
