Post subject:  No Ships in Shipyard?

Has anybody ever tried running a game in which the shipyard offered either no ships, or only Scout Marauders (so podded players can get back into the game without having to blow their pod)? I think it would make for an interesting "pirates only" kind of game. Every ship players wanted to fly would have to be captured from aliens (or acquired from other players by hook or by crook, if the ship turns out to be particularly rare), and in the absence of ISS and CFS, lesser attack ship types might see more use.

My thinking is that this might make for interesting changes in how the game is played and the mix of ships in use. Has anyone tried this?

Sounds fun. I'd play that edit.

You can give the ISS and CFS to Gold aliens if you want, or edit custom ships for them. I always thought it would be fun to have multiple races with their own unique ships, like the Ferrengi have.

Actually, I think I just figured out you could disable all ship selling, and just set the Scout Marauder as the default escape pod for all ships. I'll have to try it out when I'm done derping around with my current build.

You can change the ship's escape pod. In my edit, I have a unique 1 tpw gridding scout ship that cannot be purchased, you can only get it after you pod in one of 3 very special "expensive" ships.

One thing that I noticed is that you cannot put a pod in a Scout Marauder, but I think that it is fun to have a Starship as your pod in a Starship.

What if you made aliens' pods bigger, or at least with better odds, than the original ship? :)

Be aware that better pods can actually sell for more than the ship they were in, so you don't want people to be able to cash that way.
