Unread post TWGS Default ANS files
All,

I am curious to target which files I need to modify as so when someone connects to my server, well, I can use my old-school ANSI art, inform them this is a TW2002 Server, and present the right options for them (dynamic, hopefully!)

Any files of mention? Are these files also game-specific? Any global file I can make a mess of?

Thanks!

Yeah, these are fun to play with. The two main menus to start with are Intro.ans and desc.ans. Intro is the main welcoming screen, desc will lead them to a sub-menu that takes them to the individual game description ansi screens.

To set these go to the command center > config tab > Server Settings button.

Both the intro.ans and desc.ans files need to be in the TWGS folder.

Individual game description files are created when you big-bang a game. They are located TWGS > DescFile. Default setting is for them to be .txt files, but you can create the ansi files and point to them in the command center > Config tab > Game Settings.

Google ansi editors, there are still a lot of cool tools out there for ansi art.

thanks, cruncher!!

i recommend acidddraw.exe as it was the de-facto standard for ANSI editing back when BBS' were all the rage. if aciddraw doesn't recognize it, one may assume they are in for a bit 'o work!

Yes AcidDraw has the most functionality for the finer details, but I found Pablo Draw to be the quickest and easiest for simple updates.

I like to post the bang dates right next the the game names on the Intro.ans, so those I'll update with Pablo.

Check out the game description for game E. Mongoose did a fine job with that page.
