Post subject:  noob question about TW 2002 files

Hello all!

noob question, being I'm new to adding new game files to Trade Wars 2002
I have some questions;

Like with Anihilator you have five files in the zip,
Anihilator.TWA, ProGameInfo_1.html, ProGameInfo_1.Txt, progameinfo5.cts
and a info file. I have now imported the TWA file but where do the rest go?

Now with some of the other zip files, say DesertStorm.zip
You have; DesertStorm.twa, DesertStorm.txt, DesertStormAliens.txt, DesertStormPlanets.txt, DesertStormShips.txt do these go in the ANSI folder or where?

Also, the game looks for a info/setting file and none of the zips new
or old have this file or am I missing something?

Any other hints would be most helpful!!!!

The only file you need is the .twa , all the others are for your viewing pleasure.

You can look them over , but most just let you know what the game was set as when it was exported.

Some of the files could be put up on a web page if you cared to do that.
The TWA contains everything you need to bang the game.

The only thing most TWA's do not have are ansi files for the ship & planet stats.
For that you may need to use SO_ProAnsiMaker
after you created or made sure is in your TWGS/GAME/GAME# directory
for the game ... then you give your players the in game info.
Otherwise the game will reflect the standard ansi files in your TWGS/ANSI folder.

I hope this helps.

Yes thanks for the reply it helped, now I understand the game a little more. I did do a google on SO_ProAnsiMaker and nothing showed up. I'll look here and see what I can find though.

Laughing that may be my next post, looking for that ansi program.
Thanks again

If you create custom ANSI files, you can put them in the [TWGS]\GAME\GAMEX\ANSI directory, where GAMEX is your particular game directory. This is the local ANSI override directory, so any ANSI file found there will be used in place of the global ANSI file in [TWGS]\GAME\ANSI. This is what Vid was referring to, but I wanted to further clarify.

So, for example, if you have a game in slot A and you create a new ANSI file for the Merchant Cruiser, you would name the file [TWGS]\GAME\GAMEA\ANSI\SHIP1.ANS and make whatever changes you want. Then, when you export this game to a TWA, it'll include all of your custom ANSI files, and when someone imports your game, it won't overwrite any of their ANSIs for other games. Even if you create new ANSI files, it's not a good idea to put them in the global ANSI directory, because that will get too cluttered when people install a lot of edits.

Are there any files that you might create for a particular game that isn't currently included in a TWA? If so, I can fix that.
