I'm wondering if this system would be good enough to run a TWGS server: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... CatId=5139 Basic run down of the system is: Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz, 512MB DDR, 40GB HDD, CD-ROM, Windows XP Pro To be honest the #1 thing that caught my eye on this is the price $100, and it comes with the Windows CD. The only thing this machine will be running will be TWGS, maybe an ANSI Editor from time to time... and possibly a WordPress powered site on a WAMP server (Unless I rip Windows out and replace it with ArchLinux... which would really speed the system up quite a bit I would imagine.) for another $100 they have this system: Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD 4x the ram 4x the HardDrive Space... faster CPU (I honestly don't think the HD Space matters for what I'm going to be doing with either of these systems.) My main concern is getting something that will work... without breaking the bank. thanks. |

The XP licenses are getting harder to come by, snatch it up! |

I last ran my server with 1/2 of that capability and never had issues. We even ran the TW DOS version under Linux/Wine without issues on a very old system that wouldn't probably even boot XP these days. |

Depends on the amount of players and the edit's you'll be running. If you plan to run unlims or something like moo2 the option #2 is the best. If you are going to have a lot of players on at the same time Option #2. If you will only be running low turn stock games the first option will be best but in 6 months if your server becomes popular you will be out grow option #1 quickly. I know for building games with server side scripts on my first server it was a single core 2.8 w/2G of ram, and when the script would kick in it used about 20 ~ 25% cpu. I upped the server to an AMD Quad Phenom II 3.2 and the same scripts never hit about 2 ~ 3% cpu usage make the games much smoother. A 1 ~2 Gig HD is plenty, anything else is just for storage Oh and the Upgrade to a Quad 3.2/8G Ram/Power Supply and Motherboard was $375 +/- from newegg. I have seen some good deals on woot and slickdeals.net on some dual/quad HP's for less than $300. |

Another thing to consider is your bandwidth. If you are running bittorrent in the background seeding, then that can also affect your game's performance, even if you are running it on a different PC. Option 1 would work, and I would echo the advice of upping the RAM in it. |

Nice choice on the processor, I have the 3.2 and it rocks right along. |
