Good luck on the renov and esp if you are dealing with contractors that do the work. I've been working with 3 seperate contractors on my house for a few months now and it is "interesting". Waiting now on AT&T to make some upgrades on the wiring and Internet service that should be done tomorrow (hopefully a bit faster and more reliable). All it takes is $$$$$.$$ and time - too much of each.
the basement was literally unfinished by the previous owner. by that i mean, once it was finished, but they "unfinished" it. so i have to do some more demolition and remove the cruddy wood paneling, move a wall about two feet over, and put up drywall and flooring. there is a rough-in for a bathroom, but we'll put that in later. fortunately i have a friend who runs his own restoration outfit. hiring a friend can be a double-edged sword, but i trust his integrity, so we'll have a go at it.
i'm actually excited because this is the first time i'll own a home that i'll actually get to customize. (we didn't modify the previous two homes we've owned.) i'm going to wire the walls in the basement for a home theater and ethernet. i'll also be able to push ethernet to some rooms upstairs. it's gonna be sweet.
