We could get donations together and as a community buy the code...

I dont know if the ten of use could get enough donations. Besides I think there would be some problems, with so many owners. I say just let Sing front the bill.

My vote, Sing for the bill, EP for coding, The rest of us can be the beta testers demanding changes.
All in favor?

Actually, a friend and I offered to buy TWGS and TW Classic from JP about 2 years ago. JP never came up with a figure though. I know how much I would pay for it, but it's hard to say if we are in the same ballpark or not. If anyone gets a general amount, let me know how much it is, and if it's close to what I'm thinking it's worth, I'll make an offer.
Just as a note. A free download of the the most recent beta version would be available to anyone that could help debug and code the program, and it wouldn't be released until the product was no longer a beta program.

I think parrot had a figure of $60K.
But that's a faded memory.

Invest $60k for the source to a text based game and hope to recoup your your investment in how many years?
For some reason I think I would rather invest $60k in a standard savings account to make some money than spend it on the source code that would never return the original investment. A more realistic price would probably be $5k in order to recoup your investment in a reasonable time frame.

Well, if I were to buy it, I would release it as open source.
I would think of that 60K as "ransom money".
Not that JP is holding the game hostage- just a figure of speech.

I vote OSO buy it now! I like the open source idea.

Where will the other 59 come from?

lol i have $10.00 on it. but seriously 60k wow too high. I mean how many people a month buy Reg codes? Two if your lucky. I think you had it right Oso it is ransom money. I mean lets face it its no TWT or what ever they are calling it now. For the most part its a few people who have played the game for years and still find it enjoyable. Worth 60k for the coded? No, We are just lucky the we have sysps that are able to host it. Then again who knows maybe ten years from now we will get an up date. like Sing said "outlook hazy"

Well that sort of shoots that idea in the behind. That's about 6 times the amount that I would even consider.

Laff, like it'd ever be sold... JP doesn't want to sell it. I've been told it brings in more sales than we see, but I'm skeptical of that. In the end, I think JP just wants to own the name rights so he can do something with it later on... or at the very least keep them from being abused.

Well, I still think it would be cool if we could petition him for the source so we could further develope the code. Prolly a pipe dream, but a dream non-the-less.
